About The Role
The Lead AI Engineer (AI Foundations) at Capital One plays a pivotal role in advancing the company's AI capabilities. This position involves designing, developing, and deploying foundational AI systems that support and enhance the bank’s suite of products and services. As part of the Intelligent Foundations and Experiences (IFX) team, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to create scalable, responsible, and high-performance AI solutions. Your work will directly influence how the bank leverages large language models, similarity search, and other AI techniques to deliver innovative customer experiences. The role requires a deep understanding of AI and ML technologies, as well as a passion for building systems that are both cutting-edge and reliable. You will contribute to setting the technical vision and long-term roadmap for AI infrastructure at Capital One, ensuring that the company remains at the forefront of AI innovation within the banking sector.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background with relevant experience in AI and ML development. A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, or related fields is required, along with at least four years of experience in developing AI algorithms or technologies. Alternatively, a master's degree with at least two years of experience is acceptable. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, Go, or Scala is essential, with at least four years of hands-on experience. Candidates with extensive experience deploying scalable AI solutions on cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure are preferred. A solid understanding of hardware and software optimization, large language models, and AI infrastructure is highly desirable. The candidate should demonstrate a passion for staying current with AI research, applying innovative techniques in production, and solving complex problems with clarity and resilience.
Responsibilities
The Lead AI Engineer will be responsible for a variety of critical tasks, including partnering with cross-functional teams comprising engineers, research scientists, product managers, and technical program managers to deliver AI-powered products. You will design, develop, test, and support AI software components such as foundation model training, large language model inference, similarity search, and model governance. Ensuring the robustness, scalability, and efficiency of AI systems will be a key part of your role. You will leverage open-source and SaaS AI technologies, including AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, and PyTorch, to build and optimize AI solutions. Inventing and implementing state-of-the-art optimization techniques to enhance performance metrics like latency, throughput, and cost-efficiency will be crucial. Additionally, you will contribute to the technical vision and strategic roadmap for foundational AI systems, ensuring alignment with business goals and industry best practices.
