About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead AI Engineer to join our dynamic team at Capital One. In this role, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of AI-driven solutions within our organization. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and deploy scalable AI systems that enhance our products and services. Your expertise will help us push the boundaries of AI technology, optimize large language models, and implement responsible AI practices. As a leader in AI engineering, you will contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of our foundational AI systems, ensuring that our solutions are innovative, reliable, and aligned with business goals. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical foundation and a passion for innovation. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, or related fields, coupled with at least 4 years of experience in developing AI and ML algorithms, is required. Alternatively, a Master’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience will also be considered. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, Scala, or Java is essential, with a minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience. Candidates with extensive experience deploying AI solutions on cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure, and expertise in developing scalable AI services, will be preferred. A deep understanding of state-of-the-art AI techniques, optimization strategies, and a continuous learning mindset are highly valued. Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work collaboratively, and a resilient, innovative mindset are key attributes for success in this role.
Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams, including engineers, research scientists, product managers, and technical program managers, to deliver AI-powered products that improve customer interactions and operational efficiencies.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain AI software components, including foundation model training, large language model inference, similarity search, model evaluation, governance, and observability tools.
• Leverage a broad stack of open-source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, and PyTorch to build high-performance AI systems.
• Invent and implement state-of-the-art optimization techniques to enhance the performance, scalability, cost-efficiency, latency, and throughput of large-scale AI systems in production environments.
• Contribute to the technical vision and the strategic roadmap of foundational AI systems at Capital One, ensuring alignment with business objectives and industry standards.
• Maintain a focus on responsible AI practices, including model governance, fairness, and ethical considerations, to ensure AI solutions are trustworthy and compliant with regulations.
• Stay abreast of the latest research and advancements in AI and machine learning, applying innovative techniques to solve complex problems and improve existing systems.
• Mentor junior team members, foster a collaborative environment, and promote best practices in AI engineering and software development.
