About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and product-minded engineer to join our team, focusing on enhancing the internal developer experience at OpenAI. This role operates at the intersection of product design, engineering excellence, and real-world scale, aiming to reimagine and optimize the software development lifecycle within our organization. The successful candidate will take ownership of multiple UI/UX surfaces across our internal tooling ecosystem, ensuring seamless integration of AI-powered features with a focus on usability and developer needs. The role involves collaborating closely with engineers and stakeholders to identify pain points, design effective solutions, and iterate on AI-empowered developer tools that balance capability with simplicity and control.
Qualifications

• Minimum of 5+ years of professional engineering experience in building user-facing products, excluding internships.
• Strong expertise in frontend development or full-stack engineering with a deep understanding of UI/UX principles, modern web technologies such as TypeScript, React, component architecture, and state management.
• Experience in zero-to-one product development, owning complex product surfaces with ambiguous requirements and high urgency.
• Proven track record of building internal, enterprise, or workflow-heavy tools tailored for technical users.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills with a keen eye for interaction design and user-centric solutions.
• Ability to work collaboratively across teams, translating stakeholder needs into intuitive and effective user experiences.

Responsibilities

• Own major product areas end-to-end, including problem discovery, UX iteration, technical design, implementation, rollout, and continuous improvement.
• Partner closely with engineering teams and internal stakeholders to understand pain points and translate them into simple, effective UI/UX solutions for core developer workflows.
• Design and iterate on AI-empowered developer experiences that strike a balance between advanced capabilities and ease of use, control, and simplicity.
• Set and uphold high standards for product performance, reliability, and usability, delivering a world-class experience for every engineer at OpenAI.
• Contribute to the development of scalable, maintainable, and high-quality internal tools and frameworks that support our internal teams' productivity and efficiency.
• Continuously seek opportunities for innovation and improvement within the internal tooling ecosystem, leveraging feedback and data to inform design and engineering decisions.
