About The Role
We are seeking a talented and passionate User Interface Designer to join our team and work in the innovative wearables space with Basis, an Akraya client company. Basis develops sensor-laden health trackers that empower individuals to understand and act upon their health data. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing engaging, intuitive interfaces for mobile, web, and wearable devices. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to create seamless user experiences that help users make meaningful health decisions. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge health technology, pushing the boundaries of design and user engagement.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have a strong portfolio demonstrating a range of design projects from concept to completion, showcasing a clear design process and problem-solving skills. A background in designing for mobile platforms (iOS and Android), web, and desktop applications is essential, with particular emphasis on small screen usability. Candidates should possess a solid understanding of user-centered design principles, usability testing, and rapid prototyping. A degree in Human Factors, HCI, Cognitive Psychology, Design, or a related field is preferred, along with experience in design thinking and UX evangelization. Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence and lead design discussions are crucial. The role is based in San Francisco, with some travel to Santa Clara and Oregon.
Responsibilities

  • Design and prototype client tools and services across diverse creative domains, including graphics, image processing, and emerging technologies.
  • Lead design projects from initial research and ideation through to final production, ensuring alignment with user needs and business goals.
  • Create wireframes, mock-ups, prototypes, requirements documents, and annotated screenshots to communicate ideas effectively to stakeholders and developers.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to incorporate their insights and feedback into the design process.
  • Participate actively in user research activities such as usability testing, ethnographic interviews, and user feedback sessions to inform design decisions.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices, advocating for user-centered design principles within the organization.
