Role summary

NVIDIA Research is seeking PhD interns for its AI-Aided Engineering (AIE) team. The role involves researching, designing, and implementing novel AI methods for physical simulation and engineering design, focusing on areas like neural operators, geometric representations, and large-scale learning. Interns will work with experienced mentors on impactful research, with opportunities for publication. Key requirements include a strong research track record, excellent Python and PyTorch skills, and expertise in either physical simulation/engineering (CFD, CAD/NURBS) or large-scale deep learning model training. The position offers a hybrid work environment and competitive hourly pay.

NVIDIA has been transforming computer graphics, PC gaming, and accelerated computing for more than 25 years. It’s a unique legacy of innovation that’s fueled by great technology—and amazing people.

NVIDIA Research is looking for research interns to join the AI-Aided Engineering (AIE) team. We develop novel AI methods for physical simulation and engineering design, with a focus on neural operators, geometric representations, and large-scale learning. You will work with experienced mentors on research that advances the field and has real-world impact. We tailor internship projects to match interns’ expertise, with opportunities to publish at leading conferences and journals.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Research, design, and implement novel AI methods for physical simulation and engineering design.
  • Work collaboratively with your team, mentor and other researchers.
  • Collaborate with product groups to transfer research into practical applications.

What we need to see:

  • Pursuing a PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong research track record and the ability to develop and evaluate new ideas.
  • Excellent Python programming skills and experience with PyTorch or a comparable framework.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong expertise in at least one of the following:
  • Physical simulation and engineering: Deep expertise in areas such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD), including running numerical solvers and analyzing simulation results, or CAD/NURBS-based geometric modeling and geometry processing.
  • Large-scale deep learning model training: A proven track record training large language models, vision transformers, or other large-scale neural networks.

Ways to stand out from the crowd:

  • Experience with geometry encoding and learning from meshes, point clouds, or CAD is a strong plus.
  • Experience developing agentic AI systems, particularly for tool use, automated experimentation, or scientific and engineering workflows.

If you are creative, autonomous, and excited about advancing AI for science and engineering, we want to hear from you!
