Role summary

Otter.ai is seeking a Software Engineer for its growth team to focus on SEO initiatives. This role involves enhancing web application discoverability, performance, and user experience for search engines and AI assistants. Responsibilities include writing clean code, implementing SEO best practices, setting up experiments, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate has 3+ years of experience with JavaScript frameworks like React and Next.js, a strong understanding of web fundamentals, and knowledge of SEO tools. Experience with Webflow and A/B testing is a plus. The position offers a hybrid work model and a salary range of $155,000 to $185,000 USD per year.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our growth team and work on SEO. Our growth team is focused on helping more people find Otter through organic search, both on search engines such as Google and on AI assistants such as ChatGPT. In this role, you will improve the discoverability, performance, and overall user experience of our web pages, collaborating closely with growth, marketing, and engineering partners. The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in web fundamentals, is curious about how search works, and has a passion for learning and innovation. Your Impact

Contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of our web application, helping it meet business goals and improve our visibility in search.

Build and improve our web pages so they are fast, crawlable, and easy for search engines and AI tools such as ChatGPT to understand, with a focus on performance and user experience.

Use Google Search Console and other SEO tools to find issues and opportunities, and work with the team to turn them into engineering tasks.

Write clean, maintainable, and reusable code that adheres to industry best practices and our internal coding standards, including HTML metadata, structured data, and Core Web Vitals.

Help set up experiments and analytics instrumentation to measure the impact of SEO changes.

Help build scalable ways to land SEO changes faster, such as automation, reusable page templates, and integrations with marketing tools like Webflow.

Partner with the growth team, external SEO partners, and frontend engineers to bring an SEO mindset into everyday feature development.

Proactively identify, diagnose, and resolve bugs to improve overall app quality and stability.

Conduct rigorous testing to ensure the application meets security standards and performs efficiently across various platforms and devices.

Ensure seamless functionality and a consistent user experience across multiple browsers, platforms, and devices through thorough validation and testing.

Continuously explore new technologies, tools, and methodologies, including AI-assisted workflows, and share what you learn with the team.

Actively participate in code review sessions to maintain high-quality code and foster knowledge sharing within the team.

We're Looking for Someone Who

3+ years of experience developing web applications using a JavaScript framework

Proficiency in writing clean, reusable, optimized HTML/CSS, TypeScript and JavaScript

Solid understanding of core web fundamentals, including how pages are rendered, crawled, and indexed

Working knowledge of SEO best practices and experience with tools such as Google Search Console

Experience with React and Next.js, including server-side rendering and static generation

Familiar with REST API principles

Experience writing unit, integration, and UI tests and a strong ability to debug code that is reusable, testable and efficient

Passion to explore and use the latest development tools and platforms, including AI tools that help scale SEO work

Experience with Webflow or a similar CMS is a plus

Experience with A/B testing and analytics instrumentation is a plus

BS or MS in computer science or related fields is a nice to have

Salary range

Salary Range: $155,000 to $185,000 USD per year.

This salary range represents the low and high end of the estimated salary range for this position. The actual base salary offered for the role is dependent on several factors. Our base salary is just one component of a comprehensive total rewards package.
