Role summary

Peraton is seeking Mission Systems Software and Edge Computing Interns to support supervised software development, data engineering, testing, and market research for a federal mission modernization pursuit. Interns will work on distributed mission systems involving remote sites, edge computing, data processing, system health, fleet operations, and decision support. Responsibilities include developing and testing software modules, building data capabilities, supporting scenario and Digital Twin functions, conducting market research on relevant technologies, and integrating software libraries and APIs. The role also involves creating automated tests and documenting technical findings. This is a part-time (15-20 hrs/week) or full-time (30 hrs/week in summer) position with an anticipated end date of December 2027.

Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking Mission Systems Software and Edge Computing Interns to support supervised software development, data engineering, testing and market research for a major federal mission modernization pursuit.

Part-time: 15–20 hours per week during the academic year

Full-time: 30 hours per week during the summer

Anticipated end date: December 2027

The intern(s) will work with Peraton solution architects, engineers and technology teams on distributed mission systems involving remote sites, edge computing, data processing, system health, fleet operations and decision support.

The position is intended to produce practical technical results. Each intern will receive clearly bounded assignments with defined objectives, acceptance criteria, documentation, testing and demonstration requirements

Responsibilities:

Develop and test software modules for distributed mission and edge computing prototypes.
Build data ingestion, transformation, database, and visualization capabilities.
Support scenario and Digital Twin functions involving asset failures, maintenance, deployment, logistics, and fleet readiness.
Conduct market research on radar manufacturers, computing hardware, software products, data standards, and emerging technologies.
Use Peraton approved Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) tools to support research, analysis, software development, and knowledge organization.
Integrate approved software libraries, Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), and data formats into prototype systems.
Create automated unit, integration, regression, and edge case tests.
Document architecture, interfaces, assumptions, limitations, test evidence, and technical findings.
Participate in technical reviews and demonstrate completed work to Peraton stakeholders

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Current enrollment in a relevant undergraduate or graduate degree program
Coursework or project experience in Python, JavaScript, databases, software engineering, or data processing
Ability to work independently in a remote environment and participate in regular technical reviews
Strong written communication and technical documentation skills
Interest in mission systems, radar, weather, AI/ML, edge computing, Digital Twins, geospatial data, or distributed systems
US Citizenship

Desired Qualifications

Experience with Linux, containers, Structured Query Language (SQL), web applications, or automated testing
Coursework or projects involving AI/ML, signal processing, computer vision, or geospatial analysis
Familiarity with Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), embedded computing, or edge platforms

Target Salary Range

The rate / range per hour below represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
