Role summary
Radical Numerics, an AI research lab focused on biological intelligence, seeks a Member of Technical Staff in Computational Biology. This role involves leveraging deep biological expertise to work with data, tasks, and analyses behind AI models, particularly in genomics, gene regulation, protein biology, or systems biology. Responsibilities include curating biological datasets, building bioinformatics pipelines, designing data mixtures for model training, and defining biological tasks and endpoints. The ideal candidate possesses strong Python or R skills, a research record in computational biology or a related field, and experience with agentic coding tools. The role offers the opportunity to shape the role around a specialty in data curation, bioinformatics pipelines, or model evaluation, partnering with model researchers and experimental collaborators.
About Us
Radical Numerics is an AI research lab building general biological intelligence. Our mission is to master the code of life, and our purpose is to reduce human suffering.
Our team created Evo, and started the field of generative genomics. Our work was featured on the cover of Science, and presented by our CEO on the main stage of TED2025. Evo was used to create the first AI-generated CRISPR-Cas9, and the first AI whole genome from scratch. Evo 2, featured in Nature, is the largest fully open source AI project across any domain.
In October, we introduced Omnii-1, the world's most advanced multimodal genome language model, and a leap toward general biological intelligence. It unifies 28 biological modalities, spanning DNA, RNA, proteins, epigenomics, and more, in a single model trained on trillions of tokens of biological data In a world first, Omnii-1 designed the first AI-generated bacteriophages to be administered to a human patient with an antibiotic-resistant infection under compassionate use. We released this news alongside seven other project areas, showing the model’s breadth of applications.
The same generative breakthroughs that enable life-saving cures also lowers the barrier to creating engineered threats and AI-generated bioweapons. We believe these forces are inseparable. Radical Numerics was founded to develop both the power to design and the responsibility to defend.
About the Role
Bring deep biological expertise to the data, tasks, and analyses behind our models. You will turn questions in genomics, gene regulation, protein biology, or systems biology into well-defined computational work and use sound judgment to interpret the results.
The role can be shaped around a strong specialty, including data curation, bioinformatics pipelines, or model evaluation. You will partner with model researchers and experimental collaborators to build datasets and analyses that support useful scientific work.
What You Will Do
Curate and integrate large biological datasets, with clear provenance, quality control, and documented assumptions.
Build reproducible bioinformatics and analysis pipelines across sequencing data, functional genomics data, single-cell data, perturbational screening data, protein data, or other data relevant to your specialty.
Help design data mixtures and sampling strategies for model training. Investigate how dataset composition, assay effects, duplication, and biological coverage affect downstream results.
Define biologically meaningful tasks, endpoints, and baselines with modeling and evaluation teams. Investigate model predictions and failure modes in the context of available biological evidence.
Work with collaborators in the wet lab to formulate testable hypotheses, prioritize validation experiments, and generate new training data sets.
What We Are Looking For
An exceptional research record in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics, or another relevant area of biology, demonstrated through a PhD or equivalent research or industry experience.
Deep expertise in at least one biological domain, with strong scientific judgment and careful attention to data quality and experimental details.
Strong Python or R programming skills and experience building reliable, reproducible scientific analyses or software.
Ability to work between biology, machine learning, and engineering and communicate assumptions, results, and limitations clearly.
Experience working with agentic coding tools.
Nice to Have
Experience with large-scale biological data curation, data mixing, or bioinformatics infrastructure.
Experience with biological foundation models or research contributions, datasets, methods, or software used by other scientists.
