About Redwood Materials

Redwood Materials was founded in 2017 by JB Straubel, co-founder and former CTO of Tesla, on a simple but radical idea: the critical minerals powering the energy transition already exist. They just need to come back. Today Redwood is the largest lithium-ion battery recycler in North America — recovering, refining, and redeploying critical minerals from end-of-life batteries back into the supply chain. On the energy side, Redwood has deployed the largest second-life battery project in the world, delivering power to AI data centers in months rather than years using proprietary energy architecture engineered entirely in-house. The company is profitable, the market it operates in is projected to grow 20 to 50 times over the next decade, and Redwood is the only company with the supply chain, the technology, and the operational scale to lead it.

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Finance Associate to join our Energy BD Finance group in San Francisco. In this role, you'll be part of the core team that owns the commercial finance function for our energy storage business — building and maintaining project finance models and supporting the end-to-end deal development, approval, and financing processes.

What You'll Do
  • Project Finance Modeling: Build and maintain sophisticated project finance models for large-scale energy storage deployments, including scenario analysis, sensitivity testing, IRR/NPV outputs, and investor-ready presentations.
  • Deal Flow Support: Partner with Business Development to support the full deal lifecycle — from initial screening and term sheet evaluation to contract negotiation — providing financial analysis and recommendations at each stage.
  • Deal Approvals: Own the financial diligence and approval package for new energy storage transactions, structuring analysis that clearly frames risk, return, and strategic fit for executive and cross-functional review.
  • Pricing & Commercial Strategy: Develop pricing frameworks that reflect true cost-to-serve and target returns, and partner with sales and BD to stress-test deal economics before commitment.
  • What You'll Bring

  • 4–7 years of experience in renewables project finance with significant deal-facing responsibilities
  • Exceptional financial modeling skills — comfortable building complex, multi-scenario models from scratch in Excel
  • Ability to structure ambiguous commercial situations into clear financial frameworks that drive decisions
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with experience distilling complex analyses for executive and investor audiences
  • Self-starter mentality with high ownership and the ability to manage multiple live deal processes simultaneously
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or professional background in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field
  • Direct experience in energy storage, battery systems, or renewable energy project development and finance
  • Familiarity with tax equity structures, ITC qualification, and government incentive programs relevant to clean energy
