Role summary
Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is seeking a Senior Systems Integration Engineer to own the integration of embedded controller software into their simulation platform. This role involves defining standards for simulation-ready software, managing controller interfaces, and composing multiple controllers into a cohesive system. You will drive adoption of these standards, diagnose integration issues, and mentor engineers. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of embedded automotive software experience, strong C/Python skills, and expertise in CI/CD and build systems.
About Us
Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is a joint venture between two industry leaders with a clear vision for automotive’s next chapter. From operating systems to zonal controllers to cloud and connectivity solutions, we’re addressing the challenges of electric vehicles through technology that will set the standards for software-defined vehicles around the world.
The road to the future is uncharted. By combining our expertise across connectivity, AI, security and more, we’ll map a new way forward. Working together, we’ll create a future that’s more connected, more intelligent, more sustainable for everyone.
Role Summary
The virtual Vehicle platform runs production embedded controller software in closed loop with vehicle physics. You will own how controllers are brought into that simulation and kept there: the standards for simulation-ready controller software, the definition of each controller's interface to the simulated vehicle, and the composition of many controllers into one correct, running system. You will work across the simulation team and the embedded software organization, and you will succeed by shipping standards other teams adopt.
Responsibilities
• Define and drive adoption of standards and automation that make every controller software release simulation-ready.
• Own the definition of controller interfaces to the simulated vehicle, and the tooling that keeps those definitions complete, consistent, and current across releases.
• Integrate additional vehicle controllers into the simulation and own their composition into a full-vehicle system.
• Diagnose integration defects at the controller boundary and convert findings into automated checks.
• Own the simulation gates in the embedded software continuous-integration process; document the onboarding process and mentor engineers on both sides.
Qualifications
What we need
• BS/MS in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent demonstrated experience.
• 5+ years in embedded automotive software — or an equivalent demonstrated record.
• Deep familiarity with modern embedded build systems and large firmware codebases.
• Strong C and Python, including experience integrating compiled embedded code with host-side tooling.
• CI/CD ownership, including pipelines consumed by other teams.
• Demonstrated ability to drive a technical standard to adoption across teams you did not belong to.
What makes you stand out
• Software-in-the-loop or virtual-ECU experience.
• Automotive middleware and network fluency: AUTOSAR-style interface generation, CAN/Ethernet, DBC/ARXML, diagnostics.
• Hardware-in-the-loop integration experience.
• Contributions to code generators, build infrastructure, or release tooling used organization-wide.
