Role summary
Sail is seeking a Member of Technical Staff focused on Security to secure its inference and agent hosting software services and infrastructure. This role involves working closely with the CTO and engineering teams to ensure robust security measures. Responsibilities include communicating security guarantees to customers, red-teaming services using large token volumes, and promoting security as an engineering-wide effort. The ideal candidate possesses strong systems and infrastructure fundamentals, with a preference for experience in securing large-scale production systems and an interest in using agents for system protection. The interview process includes meeting the CTO, system design, code review, and threat modeling.
Sail builds the world's most efficient software for inference (processing LLM tokens) and agent hosting (cloud VMs). Together, our technologies allow our customers to deploy AI agents at large scale to do the most challenging work.
In this role, you'll focus on securing our service and infrastructure. You’ll work closely with the CTO and across our engineering teams to secure our infrastructure and services.
What you’ll do
Communicate to customers the security guarantees that Sail offers: for example, what zero-data retention means, or the level of isolation offered by microVMs vs. gVisor.
Use massive token volumes to red-team our own services and infrastructure.
Make security an engineering-wide responsibility.
What we’re looking for
Ambition to actually secure complex real-world systems, rather than just check boxes.
Strong systems and infrastructure fundamentals (networking, cloud infra, isolation technologies, OS, etc). Ideally, experience with security for large-scale production systems.
Interest in using large swarms of agents to protect systems.
Interview process
Meet the CTO, who will ask about your experience and share as much detail about Sail as you want to hear. He worked on security for 5+ years prior at Apple and Yubico!
Spend a day at Sail's SF office (10am to ~3pm):
Intro chat
System design interview with two of our engineers
Code review
Lunch with the team
Threat modeling
Designing a process
Wrap up with founders
Offer. Once the team decides we want to work with you, we make a strong offer quickly and will be quite persistent over email/text/calls :)
Life at Sail
We work out of a beautiful, sunny office in downtown San Francisco. All meals are on us. Everyone gets a Studio Display at their desk. We are serious about investing in anything that saves us time or energy. There are six different ways to make coffee or tea in the office. A friendly (hypoallergenic) black cat named Coco visits occasionally.
