Role summary

SambaNova is seeking a New Grad Compiler Engineer to work on their RDU accelerator architecture. This role involves developing and optimizing core compiler components, including the IR, model lowering, partitioning, tensor tiling, and memory management. You will write production C++ and Python code, debug at a low level, and collaborate with runtime and hardware teams to map operations onto the RDU fabric for improved performance. Experience in machine learning systems development, ML compilers, or kernel generation is required.

SambaNova is a leader in next-generation AI infrastructure, delivering a full-stack inference platform for customers worldwide. At the core of SambaNova's technology is the RDU (Reconfigurable Dataflow Unit) — a chip built on a dataflow architecture rather than the traditional GPU model. Its decode performance is especially strong for agentic workloads like multi-turn agents, code generation, and long-running applications. RDUs are packaged into SambaRack, rack-scale hardware that lets customers deploy state-of-the-art models with better performance, greater energy efficiency, and faster time to value.

About the Team

The compiler team at SambaNova powers the RDU through a unique compilation strategy. By fusing kernels into dataflow graphs that run across the entire accelerator architecture, we avoid sequential kernel launches and eliminate the memory traffic that bottlenecks conventional hardware. This is a key differentiator and unlike any other product on the market.

About the Role

As a new grad Compiler Engineer, you'll work on core areas of our compiler, including the IR and pass infrastructure, model lowering and partitioning, tensor tiling, memory management, and mapping operations onto the fabric. Compiler and hardware design are closely linked here, and you'll see how compiler decisions affect chip performance. You'll write production code in C++ and Python, debug at a low level, and work with the runtime and hardware teams. Senior engineers will review your code and mentor you as you take on larger parts of the compiler.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and optimize passes in the compiler's IR and pass infrastructure
  • Lower and partition machine learning models for execution on the RDU
  • Develop tensor tiling and memory management for on-chip memory
  • Map operations onto the RDU fabric to improve model performance
  • Debug compiler and performance issues at a low level in C++ and Python
  • Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Experience in machine learning systems development, including ML compilers, LLM inference kernels, or kernel generation
  • Strong programming skills in Python and C/C++
  • Experience programming GPUs or other AI accelerators
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Experience with ML compiler frameworks such as MLIR or StableHLO
  • Experience with LLM kernel libraries
  • Machine learning systems research experience
  • Open source project ownership or contributions
  • Experience building AI agent driven tools or automation
  • Base Salary Range:

    Base Pay Range$131,200—$196,800 USD
