Junior Web Developer

Shout Media is a digital agency specializing in web development, digital marketing, and brand strategy. We also operate two internal divisions: Responder Recruitment, which supports public safety hiring initiatives, and Haven, a SaaS platform focused on training and compliance.

We are looking for a Junior Web Developer who is passionate about clean code, problem-solving, and translating design into responsive websites. While the core of the role will support marketing and client projects, you may also contribute to career websites for Responder Recruitment and front-end development for Haven clients as your experience grows.

This is a full-time role focused on front-end and back-end development within the WordPress ecosystem. You will collaborate with our designers and developers to turn mockups into performant, accessible websites and maintain existing builds.

This position is best suited for someone who is adaptable, detail-oriented, and eager to grow their development skills in a team-focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain responsive websites using WordPress, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP
• Translate designs and wireframes into high-quality code
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve front-end and back-end issues
• Optimize websites for speed, SEO, and cross-browser performance
• Provide technical support and documentation when needed
• Participate in testing, deployment, and QA processes
• Assist with updating and maintaining existing websites

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Web Development, or related field
• 1+ year of experience with WordPress and modern web technologies
• Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL
• Experience with Webflow is an asset
• Strong understanding of responsive design and cross-browser compatibility
• Familiarity with version control and debugging tools
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
• Ability to manage tasks independently and meet deadlines
• Interest in learning and growing within a collaborative development team
• Familiarity with or interest in working with Statamic and Tailwind CSS is considered an asset

This position is ideally based in Thunder Bay, Ontario with a hybrid work arrangement. However, we will consider remote applicants located within the Eastern Time Zone, and in some cases elsewhere in Canada. Candidates must reside in Canada and be legally eligible to work here.
