Role summary

Skydio, a leader in autonomous flight technology for drones, is seeking Electrical Engineering Interns for Summer 2027. Interns will contribute to the development and refinement of electrical systems for autonomous flying sensors, working on low-voltage hardware development, schematic design, PCB layout, prototyping, and debugging. Responsibilities include collaborating with cross-functional teams, testing PCBAs for various subsystems, and supporting system integration. The role requires a degree in Electrical Engineering, a solid grasp of fundamentals, and familiarity with EE lab tools. Experience with power, digital, or analog electronics and EDA software is preferred.

Skydio is the leading US drone company and the world leader in autonomous flight, the key technology for the future of drones and aerial mobility. The Skydio team combines deep expertise in artificial intelligence, best-in-class hardware and software product development, operational excellence, and customer obsession to empower a broader, more diverse audience of drone users, from utility inspectors to first responders, soldiers in battlefield scenarios, and beyond.

About the role:

We are seeking interns for our EE Team! We are looking for Electrical Engineering Interns who will help prototype, validate, develop, and refine the electrical systems that bring together state-of-the-art computing hardware, sensing, and power systems in the latest autonomous flying sensors. As a member of the Electrical Engineering team, you will be helping solve tough challenges alongside a team of world-class engineers.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Take ownership of low-voltage electronic hardware development, including specification, schematic design, PCB layout, prototyping, and fabrication

  • Perform hands-on bring-up, assembly, and debugging of custom circuit boards for testing and validation

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, firmware, reliability, software, and electrical teams to build reliable test and validation systems for new products

  • Develop and test PCBAs for subsystems such as power distribution, battery management, sensing, motor control, and computing

  • Participate in schematic, layout, and BOM reviews, providing feedback on internally and externally developed designs

  • Support system integration and test activities through test execution, troubleshooting, and failure analysis.

What makes you a good fit:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering (or a related field)

  • Solid grasp of electrical engineering fundamentals

  • Familiar with basic EE lab tools (oscilloscope, signal generators, etc.)

  • Some experience with power electronics (motor driver, switch mode power supplies…), digital electronics (MCU, FPGA, Ethernet, USB, SPI, I2C…), and/or analog electronics (filters, ADC/DAC…)

  • Previous internship work on electronic products

  • Familiar with an EDA software suite, preferably Cadence Allegro

  • Ability to quickly prototype solutions and circuit demonstrations

  • Ability to work autonomously

Compensation Range: The hourly rate for this position is $47/hr for Undergrad, $53/hr for Graduate students, and $58/hr for PhD students*. Compensation will vary based on factors, including skill level, proficiencies, transferable knowledge, and experience. Interns are eligible to receive the following benefits: Paid vacation time, sick leave, holiday pay and 401K savings plan. This position and all associated benefits are subject to applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as the Company’s policies and eligibility criteria.
