Role summary

The Starship avionics team is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and analyze avionics systems for orbital flight and space travel. Responsibilities include designing instrumentation and electro-mechanical assemblies for extreme environments, performing thermal and structural analysis using FEA and hand calculations, creating 3D models and production drawings, and conducting failure analysis. The role involves hands-on participation in manufacturing processes like pressure and thermal testing, and requires collaboration with production teams and suppliers. A Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field and 1+ years of mechanical or electromechanical design and analysis experience are required. Experience with CAD/FEA software, design for manufacturability, and GD&T are preferred.

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

MECHANICAL ENGINEER (STARSHIP AVIONICS)

The Starship team supports the mission to revolutionize orbital flight and space travel, opening access for humankind to establish new frontiers in space and ultimately become a multi-planetary species. Our team builds some of the most advanced electronics ever flown in space, at a cost and rate previously considered unthinkable in the space industry. Specifically, the Starship avionics team is responsible for designing a Starship avionics system that is optimized for high reliability at a low mass and cost.
