Role summary

SpaceX is seeking a Sr. Environmental Health & Safety Engineer for its Rocket Development & Test Site. This role involves providing technical expertise to implement and maintain environmental, health, and safety programs, ensuring compliance with regulations from agencies like OSHA, EPA, and DOT. Responsibilities include conducting hazard assessments, monitoring employee exposure, investigating accidents, managing waste, and providing safety guidance for engineering designs. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree, 5+ years of EHS experience, and familiarity with both environmental and occupational safety fields. This is an onsite position requiring relocation to McGregor, Texas.

SR. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY ENGINEER

As part of a small, hardworking team of technicians and engineers, you will provide technical expertise and assist in the implementation of all environmental, health and safety programs at the Rocket Development & Test Site. The ideal candidate is highly skilled with both environmental and occupational safety fields, hands-on, and works well in a fast-paced environment. We work as a highly integrated team and job responsibilities will include helping other programs to ensure the overall success of SpaceX.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and/or guidelines established by OSHA, NFPA and NIOSH and other applicable regulatory agencies

Collaborate with department leadership to complete job hazard assessments and implement health and safety policies and procedures

Monitor employee exposure to physical and chemical hazards

Understand and implement machine guarding where needed

Develop recommendations for remedial actions when safety policies are not met by employees

Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations

Complete and maintain documented safety observations from regular hazard identification audits

Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine root causes, corrective actions and preventive measures

Develop, implement and maintain safety contingency plans (fires, spills, etc.)

Develop and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations established by the EPA, CERCLA, RCRA, DOT, TRRC, NEPA and other applicable regulatory agencies

Review and interpret new and proposed environmental laws and regulations, and provide guidance to management

Provide expert level guidance to engineering customers on safety design

Perform environmental compliance and due diligence audits to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies

Conduct and monitor the NPDES and other discharge permits/plans

Maintain recordkeeping and compliance requirements established for permitted sources defined by the local TCEQ

Responsible for hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, including DOT and RCRA

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree

5+ years of experience in the design, development, and operational oversight of environmental, health, and safety disciplines or a relevant engineering field

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering with an emphasis in occupational health and safety and/or environmental engineering

Experience in both environmental and safety fields

Familiarity with structural design, safety systems, and construction safety

Experience with implementing and maintaining compliance with storm water regulations

Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying and documenting federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations

Strong organizational and communication skills

Familiarity and implementation of machine guarding and industrial hygiene programs

Experience with emergency response communication and incident management in incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to air, soil, and water

Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

This is not a remote or hybrid position and will require relocation if not already local to the McGregor, Texas area

Position occasionally requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed
