Role summary

SpaceX is seeking a Sourcing Manager for its Starlink program, focusing on construction and facility-related projects for xAI datacenters. This role involves developing and executing procurement strategies, performing market analysis, negotiating contracts with legal collaboration, managing vendor relationships, and identifying cost reduction opportunities. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical and business background, with experience in construction project management, contract negotiation, and supply chain management. This is an onsite position in Bastrop, TX, requiring a Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience, or 9+ years in lieu of a degree. Up to 20% travel may be required.

SOURCING MANAGER, CAPITAL EQUIPMENT & CONSTRUCTION (STARLINK)

At SpaceX we’re leveraging our experience in building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world’s most advanced broadband internet system. Starlink is the world’s largest satellite constellation and is providing fast, reliable internet to millions of users worldwide. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system – thousands of satellites, consumer receivers that allow users to connect within minutes of unboxing, and the software that brings it all together. We’ve only begun to scratch the surface of Starlink’s potential global impact and are looking for best-in-class engineers to help maximize Starlink’s utility for communities and businesses around the world.

This Sourcing Manager role will mainly support construction and facility related projects for xAI datacenters. It will enable the production of our customer-facing products, while interfacing closely with key internal stakeholders. We are looking for individuals who can think outside the box to achieve company objectives regarding value and partnerships with our suppliers. Our organization moves quickly, and you must too. SpaceX has the unique ability and desire to influence and shape suppliers to be better with us as we challenge our supply chain on cost, quality and delivery. This individual will support construction projects and capital purchases for the construction and facilities organizations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work directly with key internal stakeholders to develop and implement a comprehensive contract management process that ensure a successful project execution cycle

Develop and execute equipment & services procurement strategies with focus on construction projects

Perform market analysis to determine should costs and achieve the best purchasing deals for equipment and services for diverse projects

Create and negotiate contract documents in collaboration with the legal department

Track and report projected and actual spend, assess budgetary risk, and provide clear budgetary analysis to enable timely management team decision making

Manage vendor relationships, ensuring clear communication, adherence to contracts, and resolution of any performance or delivery issues

Present value propositions to SpaceX management, including those related to contract award, cost reviews, cost reduction strategies, and critical supply issues

Identify and execute cost reduction projects including planning, coordinating with stakeholders, estimating completion, and project updates

Perform advanced quantitative and business process analyses to identify financial impacts of decisions, cost improvement, and performance for assigned categories

Create and implement management programs to develop, continuously improve, manage the performance of, and monitor KPIs of the supply base

Lead and execute request for proposals to fulfill requirements for defined categories or internal assigned areas

Place purchase orders and resolve blocked invoices related to assigned categories

Develop and lead efforts to reduce number of transactions

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience working in one or more of the following; OR 9+ years of experience working in one or more of the following in lieu of a degree:

Engineering

Purchasing

Contract negotiation

Operations or supply chain management

Master production scheduling

Construction, facilities, or industrial plant management

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Strong technical background to speak the language of engineers and strong business background to deal with contracts and negotiations

Construction project management experience and/or construction cost estimate experience

Familiarity or experience in purchasing or similar procurement related experience

Experience in industrial engineering, construction management, and/or facilities management

Strong budget tracking and cost analytical skills

Extensive project management and organizational skills

Experience managing large scale industrial and commercial construction projects

Strong contract negotiation and document management skills

Remarkable problem-solving skills with a bias for speed

Quick learner and ability to prioritize appropriately to meet customer and company needs

Excellent customer service skills

Effective written, verbal, and presentation communication skills

Exceptional analytical and organizational skills

Strong technical knowledge and skills in current technologies and applications (e.g. MS Office Suite, SQL, PowerBI, etc.)

Ability to conduct all activities with the highest degree of integrity

Detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to respond quickly to a fast-moving and ever-changing environment

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to travel and communicate outside of work hours - up to 20% work week travel may be required, including international travel

Willingness to work long hours and weekend when needed to meet critical deadlines

This position is based in Bastrop, TX and requires being onsite
