Role summary

Sphere Studios is seeking a Director, Production Management in Burbank to lead a team responsible for creating world-class content for Sphere's massive LED screens, including The Exosphere, atrium displays, and the 16K Media Plane. This role involves managing projects from ideation to delivery, collaborating with various creative and technical teams, and overseeing external vendors. The Director will develop departmental processes, manage budgets and schedules, and report progress to senior leadership. A minimum of seven years of experience as a Producer in VFX, studio, network, or post-production is required, along with familiarity with creative advertising practices and post-production tools.

Who are we hiring?

Sphere Studios is looking for a Director, Production Management to join a groundbreaking team based in Burbank. As the content design, production and delivery team for all Sphere projects, Sphere Studios strives to create world-class experiences at an unprecedented scale for the largest and highest-resolution LED screens ever made.

The Director will be overseeing a team that leads projects related to the Exterior display of the Sphere (The Exosphere), the innovative displays in Sphere’s atrium, as well as the 16K Media Plane. The Production Management team is responsible for managing and tracking multiple projects from creative ideation through final delivery. The Director will interface cross-departmentally with Creative, Design, Motion Graphics, Post Production, Visual Effects and Experiential Production teams while also leading many high-profile projects themselves.

Additionally, this role will manage external vendors and/or freelancers that specialize in VFX, Motion Graphics and creative content. They are required to manage all aspects of this workstream including directing coordinators, deftly moving between the daily minutiae while reporting progress to senior management.

Critical to this role is having the innate foresight to identify and address future issues. This position reports to the SVP, Production & Studio Management, and works closely with other key production, creative, technical and executive staff. This role needs to be flexible, and open to taking on additional test/live projects as needed.

What will you do?

  • Oversee a team that will provide production management support for Exosphere Ads, Exosphere Art & Promo, Atrium content and Media Plane projects.
  • Develop and maintain departmental processes and procedures to ensure operational efficiency and transparent project tracking capabilities.
  • Help manage vendor and partner relationships while having an ongoing understanding of their capacity and capabilities
  • Work with departmental production and creative staff to ensure project needs are being met, identify interdependencies and track them
  • Create project budgets and schedules as needed, oftentimes working with multiple stakeholders
  • Schedule cross-departmental meetings with the intention of disseminating critical project information, ending with buyoff of a cohesive, budget-conscious plan
  • Communicate and present project updates to senior leadership and key cross-divisional Sphere stakeholders
  • Provide exceptional experiences for our guests, partners, and team members, including by adhering to our appearance and presentation guidelines while on-site.

    • What do you need to succeed?

  • College degree preferred or additional production certificate programs.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience as a VFX, studio, network or post-production facility Producer
  • Familiarity with the creative advertising/design industry, understating basic terminology and practices
  • Acute understanding of creative advertising practices and processes
  • Familiarity with a broad range of post-production software from content creation and editorial to production management tools
  • Working knowledge of scheduling software applications including Airtable and Toggl
  • Asset Management software experience a must, working in ShotGrid is a plus
  • Comfortable working across multiple departments and roles spanning from entry level to Executive Management
  • Excellent skills in collaboration and communication (oral and written). Must be a team player and work well under tight deadlines.

  • Travel to Las Vegas and location shoots as necessary.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule that will occasionally require weekends, nights and holidays and must be willing to travel to other locations as needed.
