Role summary

Star Mountain Capital is seeking a Portfolio Reporting Analyst with strong financial and analytical skills to support portfolio monitoring, financial reporting, and data management. This role involves preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, tracking KPIs, and supporting dashboard creation. The analyst will ensure data consistency, identify discrepancies, and assist with ad hoc requests. Collaboration with various departments like Portfolio Management, Investments, Finance, Operations, and Investor Relations is key. The position also focuses on process improvement, automation, and leveraging technology for efficiency. A Bachelor's degree in a related field and 1-3 years of experience are required, along with advanced Excel skills and experience with AI tools. Preferred qualifications include experience in private markets and familiarity with SQL and data visualization tools.

Position Overview

Star Mountain Capital is seeking a highly analytical, detail-oriented Portfolio Reporting Analyst to support the firm's portfolio monitoring, financial reporting, and investment data management activities. This individual will play an important role in ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of portfolio-level reporting across the firm's investment strategies.

The ideal candidate will possess strong financial and analytical skills, advanced Excel capabilities, and the ability to work with large datasets while maintaining a high degree of accuracy. This position requires collaboration across Portfolio Management, Investments, Finance, Operations, and Investor Relations to support internal decision-making, investor reporting, and ongoing portfolio oversight.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare and maintain recurring monthly, quarterly, and annual portfolio reporting packages.
  • Track portfolio performance, investment valuations, and relevant portfolio-level KPIs.
  • Support the preparation of portfolio dashboards, performance summaries, and management presentations.
  • Identify reporting discrepancies, unusual trends, and potential data integrity issues, escalating findings as appropriate.
  • Assist with ad hoc reporting and analytical requests from senior management and investment professionals.

    • Data Management & Reporting Systems

  • Ensure consistency of portfolio information across reporting systems and deliverables.
  • Support ongoing improvements to data collection, reporting processes, and system integrations.
  • Identify opportunities to automate recurring reports and improve reporting efficiency.

    • Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Support Investor Relations with accurate portfolio-level information for investor presentations, reporting, and due diligence requests.
  • Assist in preparing materials for internal portfolio reviews, investment committee meetings, and senior leadership discussions.
  • Respond to internal reporting requests while maintaining data accuracy and confidentiality.

    • Process Improvement & Reporting Efficiency

  • Identify opportunities to streamline reporting workflows and reduce manual processes.
  • Develop and enhance reporting templates, dashboards, and analytical tools.
  • Assist in implementing standardized reporting procedures and data quality controls.
  • Leverage technology, automation, and analytical tools to improve the scalability and effectiveness of portfolio reporting.

    • Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Analytics, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in financial reporting, portfolio analytics, investment operations, accounting, or financial analysis.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, complex formulas, lookups, and financial data analysis.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools, including Claude or similar platforms, to automate workflows, streamline financial reporting, enhance data analysis, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, financial metrics, and accounting fundamentals.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies across financial datasets.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple reporting deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across multiple departments.

    • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within private credit, private equity, asset management, investment banking, or financial services.
  • Understanding of private investment performance metrics, including IRR, MOIC, NAV, and investment-level returns.
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or other data visualization and analytical tools.
  • Exposure to debt investments, credit agreements, and portfolio company financial reporting.
  • Experience improving or automating financial reporting processes.

    • CompensationThe exact salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and performance during the selection process.
