Role summary

Storable is seeking a Principal Software Development Engineer to set the technical direction and solve complex engineering problems across their AI-powered property management platform. This hands-on role requires deep expertise in distributed systems and service-oriented architecture, with a focus on defining and driving multi-year architecture transformations for scalability, resiliency, and efficiency. The engineer will lead AI/GenAI initiatives, establish engineering standards, and influence technical and business decisions at all levels. Responsibilities include system design, coding, prototyping, and mentoring senior engineers. Experience with commerce systems and resiliency engineering is preferred. The role involves a hybrid work schedule in Bellevue, WA.

Overview

Principal Engineers are responsible for setting the technical direction across Storable. They solve the company’s most complex and ambiguous engineering problems, connect technology strategy to business outcomes, and establish the standards for engineering excellence across our products and platforms.

This is a hands-on role for a technical visionary who can move between architecture, code, product strategy, and executive decision-making. You will partner with leaders across Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, Support, Finance, and Compliance to create clarity, make durable decisions, and build systems that scale with Storable’s growth.

You will shape the future of FMS, CRM, Commerce, Marketplace, and shared technology capabilities—including how Storable applies AI to build better products, improve operations, and increase the speed and quality of engineering delivery.

What you'll do every day

Set company-wide technical direction for product and platform architecture across FMS, CRM, Commerce, Marketplace, and shared capabilities.

Define and drive multi-year architecture transformations that improve resiliency, observability, flexibility, delivery speed, and cost efficiency.

Make critical decisions about system design, service boundaries, data contracts, and platform interfaces for performance, scalability, and resilience at millions of TPS.

Stay hands-on by writing code, reviewing designs, prototyping solutions, and directly delivering outcomes tracked at the Storable executive level.

Lead the design of AI- and GenAI-powered capabilities, including agent-callable service interfaces, intelligent decision systems, and safe evaluation practices.

Establish AI-native engineering practices such as spec-driven development, GenAI-assisted automation, and AI-powered operational tooling.

Influence technical and business decisions across organizational boundaries, including with senior executives, without relying on direct authority.

Define and champion standards for architecture, software quality, availability, security, operational excellence, and cost management.

Lead engineering efforts that improve customer experience through fewer transaction failures, lower latency, and reliable commerce at global scale.

Mentor Staff and senior engineers toward Principal-level scope, judgment, and impact through architecture guidance, design reviews, and hands-on coaching.

What you need to bring

12+ years of software development experience, including deep expertise in distributed systems and service-oriented architecture.

A track record of leading architecture transformations across multiple teams and services, including driving adoption through delivery.

Experience designing and operating highly available systems at large scale, including environments handling millions of TPS.

Demonstrated ability to influence technical strategy and business outcomes across organizational boundaries and at senior executive levels.

A hands-on engineering practice: you write code, review designs, prototype critical ideas, and stay close to production realities.

AI fluency, with experience using AI tools or GenAI techniques to improve engineering workflows, product capabilities, or operational outcomes.

Bonus points

Experience with FMS, CRM, commerce, payments, or subscription systems operating across multiple currencies, territories, and regulatory environments.

Experience designing agent-callable services, AI platforms, intelligent decision systems, or AI-assisted software development workflows.

Expertise in resiliency engineering, including graceful degradation, blast-radius isolation, chaos testing, and recovery design.

A record of mentoring senior engineers toward Principal-level scope and strengthening technical leadership across an organization.

Experience building simulation, forecasting, experimentation, or ML-driven recommendation systems.

Experience supporting international expansion through local payment methods, regulatory compliance, and market-specific adaptation.

All applicants must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States and able to work a hybrid schedule in our Bellevue, WA office.
