Role summary

Stripe, LLC. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend to build and operate critical, large-scale financial systems. Responsibilities include translating business needs into robust software requirements, designing scalable distributed systems, leading cross-functional projects, and building large-scale financial data platforms using Big Data technologies. The role requires extensive experience in Java, Scala, or Python, distributed systems, production debugging, SQL, data pipelines, fintech domain, technical direction, and Apache Spark. The position offers 50% telecommuting.

What you’ll do

Responsibilities

Building and operating critical, large-scale systems that manage massive volumes of financial information, to fulfill business goals for Stripe and its partners;

Navigate a complex fintech environment with numerous compliance regulations, translating internal and external business needs into robust software requirements and scalable distributed systems;

Lead cross- functional alignment and provide technical direction for multi-team projects;

Build large-scale (petabyte-size) financial data platforms, solutions, and pipelines using Big Data technologies and distributed systems;

Debugging production issues across the stack, analyzing complex datasets and designing large-scale data pipelines using modern Big Data technologies to ensure reliable, high-performance solutions;

Executing projects related to insights into Stripe’s financial performance across multiple Stripe products;

Work on systems critical to Stripe's future financial operations, with impact over billions of dollars of payment volume;

Deeply understand the design and architecture of modern payments and financial technology across countries; and

Leverage experience with monitoring, incident handling, debugging in production environments to ensure data pipeline health and SLOs, while reducing operational toil via automation.

Who you are

Minimum requirements

Must have a Bachelor's Degree or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Security, or a related field, plus five (5) years of related work experience in Software Engineering.

Must also have experience in each of the following:

5 years of experience programming in Java, Scala, or Python;

5 years of experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable distributed systems;

5 years of experience debugging production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack;

5 years of experience with different testing tools and frameworks including JUnit, Mockito, and TestNG;

4 years of experience developing complex SQL queries, analyzing datasets and designing large-scale data pipelines;

4 years of experience working in fintech domain;

4 years of experience leading cross-team projects and building alignment on multi-team technical direction; and

1 year experience working with Apache Spark or similar modern Big Data technologies.

Salary: $206,086.00 - $285,600.00/yr.

This salary range represents the base salary range for the role and any sales commissions / sales bonuses targets, if applicable, would be in addition to the base salary.

40 hrs/week

50% Telecommuting permitted.
