Senior DevOps Engineer

The opportunity

We are looking to add a Senior DevOps Engineer to play a crucial role in integrating the Digital Health and Discovery Platform (DHDP) software development and operations to accelerate product delivery and enhance system reliability. Reporting to the National Director, DHDP, this position will work closely with the Senior Product Manager and Principal Architect to streamline software development and build CI/CD pipelines. This role requires a mix of coding, system administration and effective collaboration across internal and external teams.

The Digital Health and Discovery Platform, a research initiative led by the Terry Fox Research Institute (TFRI), is a federated AI and data-sharing software product for advancing disease research. The DHDP operates by bringing its software to where the data is located, analyzing it there and delivering the results back to the platform and user.

This is a full-time, temporary position until March 2027.

Together with its many research and funding partners, TFRI empowers Canada’s brightest researchers to seek out new transformational and precision medicine discoveries to advance our understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer with the goal of significantly improving outcomes for patients.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for efficient software delivery
• Automate infrastructure using tools like Terraform, Ansible or CloudFormation
• Monitor, troubleshoot and optimize application performance and system reliability
• Manage cloud environments (AWS, Azure or GCP) and ensure cost optimization
• Implement security best practices in infrastructure and deployment workflows
• Collaborate with Sr. Product Manager, Principal Architect and other DHDP team members for seamless integration
• Contribute to documentation, process improvements and compliance-related activities.
• Assist in implementing backup, disaster recovery and monitoring solutions.
• Troubleshoot cloud-based systems and participate in incident response processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or related area of study.
• 3-5 years of proven experience as a DevOps Engineer or similar role.
• Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash or equivalent).
• Strong understanding of networking, load balancing and firewalls.
• Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix administration
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes or container orchestration tools
• Familiarity with Git, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD or similar tools
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
