Role summary

The Boring Company is seeking an Operations Manager to lead the successful operation of the Austin–San Antonio Hyperloop. This role involves creating and refining the operational plan, establishing and managing the Operations Command Center, and overseeing the launch and steady-state operations. The manager will lead a team of operators and technicians, drive efficiency improvements, resolve technical issues, and collaborate with various stakeholders including government officials and engineering teams. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree and at least 7 years of relevant experience, with a preference for an engineering background and 10+ years of experience.

The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more, with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.
The Boring Company is developing a simple, precursor Hyperloop tunnel between Austin and San Antonio capable of speeds greater than 200 mph. Due to traffic congestion, that journey currently takes up to 2.5 hours. The Boring Company can reduce it to a consistent less than 30 minutes.
We are looking for an operations leader to oversee the successful operation of the Austin–San Antonio Hyperloop.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the creation and continuous refinement of the comprehensive operational plan for the Austin–San Antonio Hyperloop, covering pre-launch, launch, and steady-state operations

  • Drive all activities required for the successful opening and public launch of the Hyperloop system
  • Manage a team of operators, technicians and personnel
  • Implement improvements that increase operational efficiency
  • Build and maintain training material and other documentation
  • Identify and react to technical issues in the Hyperloop system, quickly coming up with mitigating actions
  • Work with civil servants, elected officials, and contractors in local, state, and federal governing bodies ensuring technology and operations are up to code
  • Identify weak points in the system, then propose and execute corrective actions
  • Work closely with architectural and engineering teams on needed designs and features, and deliver actionable requirements as the system scales
  • Strategically stay ahead of an evolving and scaling system with appropriate operational and technological changes
  • Make determinations on the best internal and outsourced approach for technical work
