
Senior DevOps Engineer
Role summary
A contingent Senior DevOps Engineer is sought for a hybrid, 6-month contract role supporting an advanced systems platform for an automobile manufacturer in Palo Alto, CA. The role requires providing follow-the-sun DevOps support during West Coast business hours to ensure platform stability and SLA compliance, contributing to 24/7 operational coverage. Key responsibilities include incident response, managing cloud infrastructure (AWS) with Terraform, building and optimizing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, monitoring Kubernetes workloads, and implementing automation. The position emphasizes DevSecOps best practices and maintaining high availability in a production-critical environment.

Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive
Senior DevOps Engineer
to join a high-impact DevOps platform team as a
contingent worker
.
This role is responsible for providing
follow-the-sun DevOps support
for a critical advanced systems platform, ensuring stability, SLA compliance, and rapid incident response during
West Coast (PST/PDT) business hours
. You will help maintain
24/7 operational coverage
in collaboration with globally distributed teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Incident Response (Follow-the-Sun):
- Provide SEV-1 / SEV-2 support during PST/PDT hours, ensuring a
2-hour initial response SLA
is consistently met.
- Infrastructure Management:
- Deploy and maintain cloud infrastructure (AWS services such as S3, Aurora/Postgres, IAM, Route 53, WAF, CloudFront) using
Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
.
- CI/CD Pipeline Management:
- Build, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines using
GitHub Actions
to support multiple environments (dev, stage, pre-production, production).
- Platform Stability & Uptime:
- Monitor cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes-based workloads to maintain
99.5% uptime SLAs
.
- Monitoring & Troubleshooting:
- Use tools such as
Prometheus, Grafana, Sentry, and ELK stack
to monitor system health and respond to incidents.
- Automation:
- Identify manual processes and implement automation to improve efficiency and reduce operational overhead.
- Security & Compliance:
- Apply DevSecOps best practices, including secure deployment practices, vulnerability management, and adherence to compliance standards (IaC-only provisioning).
- Documentation:
- Create and maintain runbooks, configurations, and documentation to support operational continuity across time zones.
Required Qualifications (MUST HAVE)
- 3+ years of experience in
DevOps / SRE
- Strong experience with
CI/CD pipelines
(GitHub Actions preferred)
- Hands-on experience with
Docker and Kubernetes
- Solid experience with
AWS cloud services
- Proficiency in
Terraform (Infrastructure as Code)
- Experience with
monitoring & logging tools
(Prometheus, Grafana, Sentry, ELK)
- Experience with
incident management
, on-call rotations, and follow-the-sun models
- Strong communication skills working across
cross-functional and global teams
- Experience with
service mesh technologies
(e.g., Istio)
- Understanding of
SDLC and Agile methodologies
(Scrum/Kanban)
- Experience supporting
multi-tenant or enterprise-scale platforms
- Experience with
backup/restore automation and disaster recovery procedures
- Knowledge of
DevSecOps principles
