Role summary

Trove Brands is looking for a Pattern & Sample Maker for bags and accessories. This role involves creating production-ready patterns, building prototypes, and ensuring products are manufacturable. The ideal candidate has strong skills in patternmaking, industrial sewing, and soft goods construction, with the ability to troubleshoot complex designs. You will collaborate with the Soft Goods Development Team and cross-functional partners to refine designs and facilitate factory handoffs. Responsibilities include pattern drafting, prototype construction, evaluating fit and functionality, and providing technical details for production.

Trove Brands is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Pattern & Sample Maker to support the development of bags, backpacks, and accessories. This role is responsible for independently creating production-ready patterns, constructing high-quality prototypes, and translating design concepts into functional, manufacturable products. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise in patternmaking, industrial sewing, and soft goods construction, with the ability to troubleshoot complex designs and recommend improvements. Working closely with the Soft Goods Development Team and cross-functional partners, this individual will play a key role in refining product designs and ensuring successful factory handoffs.

Key Responsibilities

Independently develop accurate, production-minded patterns for bags and accessories using design sketches, reference samples, technical drawings, and development briefs.

Cut, sew, assemble, and finish complete in-house prototypes using woven fabrics, coated materials, foam, webbing, zippers, hardware, and other bag components.

Translate design concepts into practical construction solutions, improving pattern geometry, seam placement, reinforcement, material utilization, and manufacturability.

Evaluate prototypes for shape, fit, functionality, durability, and workmanship, making adjustments based on development feedback.

Collaborate with the Soft Goods Development Team to troubleshoot construction challenges and validate factory corrections through physical samples.

Maintain organized digital and physical pattern files, including revisions, version control, sample records, and construction notes.

Provide technical pattern details, measurements, seam allowances, assembly instructions, and construction recommendations for tech packs and factory handoffs.

Test materials, reinforcements, and construction techniques to evaluate their impact on product performance and manufacturing.

Safely operate and maintain industrial sewing machines, cutting equipment, and sample-room tools.

Participate in development reviews and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet seasonal product development timelines.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, Patternmaking, or a related field, with formal training in patternmaking or industrial sewing.

3+ years of hands-on patternmaking and sample-making experience, specifically with bags, backpacks, luggage, accessories, or other structured sewn soft goods.

Demonstrated ability to independently draft, modify, and execute accurate two-dimensional patterns for complex three-dimensional bag constructions.

Advanced proficiency in industrial sewing and constructing complete samples, including zippers, gussets, binding, piping, webbing, reinforcements, linings, hardware, and multi-layer assemblies.

Strong understanding of woven and coated fabric behavior, seam allowances, tolerances, stitch selection, and construction techniques used in commercial bag manufacturing.

Ability to independently troubleshoot construction challenges and develop practical, production-ready solutions.

Desired Qualifications

Experience using digital patternmaking software or CAD systems.

Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator for pattern development or technical documentation.
