Role summary

Ultima Genomics is seeking a motivated Technician II, Sub-Assembly for a full-time, 6-month contract position in Fremont, CA. The role involves assembling, installing, and testing complex electro-mechanical systems, executing automation testing, and troubleshooting issues across various subsystems. Responsibilities include documenting processes, managing Jira tickets, collaborating with engineering teams on improvements, drafting work instructions, and participating in ECO processes. The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of relevant hands-on manufacturing or assembly experience, the ability to interpret technical drawings, proficiency with hand and diagnostic tools, and familiarity with systems like Jira, ERP, and PLM. A BS degree in engineering or a related field is preferred. This role requires strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

We’re looking for a highly motivated Technician II, Sub-Assembly to join our Team!

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled electro-mechanical technician who’s passionate about building impactful technology and contributing to meaningful change in the world.

This opportunity is a full-time 6-month contracting position based in our Fremont, CA office.

How You’ll Contribute

  • Assemble, install, and test complex mechanical assemblies, fixtures, and equipment using hand and power tools
  • Execute automation testing and complete required documentation such as deviations, Device History Records (DHRs), material transfers
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues across subsystems—including mechanical, electrical, software, and instrumentation components
  • Document assembly and testing issues by creating and managing Jira tickets
  • Use internal software tools to collect, record, and manage build and test data for device history and system bring-up
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify and drive design or process improvements
  • Draft and review work instructions for system integration and automation workflows
  • Manage system configurations and participate in Engineering Change Order (ECO) processes
  • Support quality and manufacturing engineering teams on production issues and new product introduction (NPI) initiatives
  • Other job duties as assigned

    • Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • BS degree in engineering, physics, or a related field preferred, or 2-4 years of relevant hands-on experience in manufacturing or assembly
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics (via PDM viewers, PDFs, etc.)
  • Skilled in using hand tools and diagnostic instruments, including calipers, torque drivers, wire crimpers, multimeters, and more
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills for precision assembly
  • Familiarity with 5S methodology and a strong safety mindset preferred
  • Familiarity with Jira (issue tracking), ERP and PLM systems, such as NetSuite or Arena and Basic Microsoft Office or Google Workspace tools for documentation and reporting is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and documentation skills
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic manufacturing environment
  • Comfortable collaborating across multidisciplinary teams such as engineering, manufacturing, and chemistry
  • Proactive, dependable, and committed to high-quality work with a positive attitude, curiosity, and eagerness to learn and contribute to a collaborative team environment
  • May be exposed to constant activity that requires standing or sitting for extended periods, pulling, lifting/moving/carrying up to 30 lbs and performing tasks requiring fine motor skills and close visual focus

    • This contracting position offers an hourly pay rate between $27/hour and $30/hour, and your actual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
