Role summary

Verra Mobility is seeking a Product Manager to own a product area focused on backoffice cloud data processing solutions. This role involves driving product strategy, roadmap development, and lifecycle management for market-leading systems. The Product Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, operations, engineering, IT, sales) to innovate and deliver best-in-class backoffice systems. Key responsibilities include leading continuous customer discovery, defining outcome-oriented roadmaps, balancing user needs with business objectives and technical feasibility, and leveraging AI tools for productivity. The ideal candidate has 3-7 years of product management experience, a track record of owning outcomes, experience in regulated or complex domains, and a passion for technology and innovation. Experience in the transportation/smart mobility sector and familiarity with product tooling are a plus.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Product Manager who is passionate about understanding customer problems, validating opportunities, and leading cross-functional teams to deliver measurable business outcomes. You'll own a product area focused on backoffice (cloud data processing) solutions, driving product strategy and execution, charting the roadmap, and managing the lifecycle of Verra Mobility’s market leading systems. As a member of the Product Management team, you will partner with leaders across the product, operations, engineering, IT, and sales teams to drive innovation and leverage the latest technologies to deliver best-in-class backoffice systems that achieve business objectives. The successful candidate will be passionate about technology with an ability to lead innovation and execution. In this business-critical role, you will merge customer needs with technology to cast a vision for Verra Mobility’s legacy and future backoffice solutions and drive the organization toward that goal. You will collaborate with key internal stakeholders to manage the backoffice systems across their lifecycle, gathering requirements, scoping initiatives, establishing product roadmaps, and working with development and support teams to ensure high product quality while minimizing cost.

You’ll join a product squad with a defined problem space, embedded alongside a technical lead and engineering team. But this isn’t a backlog-grooming role, as you’ll own discovery: getting in front of customers, validating the problems, stress-testing potential solutions, and driving a roadmap that delivers measurable outcomes. You’ll report directly to the Director of Product and operate as a key product leader as we build toward a modern Product Operating Model.

What You’ll Do

Own the problem, drive discovery

  • Lead continuous customer discovery, including interviews, ride-alongs, and data analysis, to validate problems and pressure-test solutions before committing to build.
  • Frame customer and business problems with clarity and evidence, ensuring the team works on what truly matters.
  • Define and maintain a prioritized roadmap grounded in measurable outcomes, rather than a feature wish list.
  • Balance user needs, business objectives, and technical feasibility, using sound judgment and solid product sense.
  • Partner early with Legal, Compliance, and Operations functions to shape viable solutions.
  • Own the problem end-to-end, make tough prioritization calls, document your reasoning and outcomes.

  • Partner closely with your technical lead and engineering team, creating context, removing ambiguity, and enabling the squad to move with speed and confidence.
  • Collaborate closely with your design lead to ensure solutions are not just technically sound but also user centered.
  • Write crisp, outcome-oriented briefs and acceptance criteria; avoid over-specifying implementation details, and focus on why the problem matters and what success looks like
  • Leverage AI tools to accelerate discovery synthesis, documentation, and delivery workflows.
  • Share your approach to discovery and product thinking with peers, contributing to a growing product practice.

  • Develop a working understanding of how products drive revenue, retention, and operational efficiency for our customers.
  • Contribute to go-to-market strategy by informing pricing, positioning, and launch readiness in close collaboration with commercial teams.
  • Define and track success metrics that link customer outcomes to business performance.
  • Serve as the internal expert for your product area trusted by sales, operations, and leadership.

    • What We’re Looking For

    Required

  • 3–7 years of product management experience, with a track record of owning outcomes.
  • Experience leading customer discovery and translating qualitative and quantitative insights into product decisions.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a cross-functional squad environment alongside engineering and design peers.
  • Experience in regulated or complex-domain industries, such as automotive, fleet, payments, fintech, or similar, with a demonstrated record of learning new domains.
  • Comfort working in and contributing to organizations evolving their product operating model.
  • Active use of AI tools to enhance productivity in day-to-day product work, such as discovery workflows, streamlining documentation, automating research, creating prototypes, and accelerating delivery.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication: you write clearly, tailor your message to different audiences, and tell a coherent product story.
  • Strong critical thinking and a bias toward evidence over opinion.

    • Great to Have

  • Knowledge of the transportation/smart mobility sector and road safety is a plus
  • Familiarity with product tooling such as Aha!, Azure DevOps, JIRA, or comparable platforms.
  • Experience working with compliance, legal, or regulatory stakeholders in a multi-jurisdictional environment.

  • Deep fluency in the assigned problem space, backed by direct customer and stakeholder engagement.
  • A validated, outcome-oriented roadmap your squad believes in and can execute against.
  • Demonstrated velocity in shipping, learning, and adjusting with confidence.
  • Trusted relationships that enable influence without authority to drive alignment across engineering, design, commercial, and other operational functions.
  • Clear evidence of customer impact: reduced friction, improved adoption, or measurable efficiency gains.

    • Logistics

  • Location: Preference given to local candidates in our Mesa, AZ headquarters or New York City office. Will consider remote candidates who express willingness for occasional travel.
  • Travel: Light, primarily for team offsites and customer engagement.
