Role summary

Truesdell Animal Care Hospital seeks a part-time Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians in providing high-quality animal care. Responsibilities include assisting with examinations, treatments, and surgeries, handling animals, performing lab tests, administering medications, maintaining records, and communicating with pet owners. The role requires 1+ years of veterinary assistant experience, technical knowledge in disinfection and medication administration, and the physical ability to handle animals. Truesdell Animal Care Hospital is hiring a part-time Veterinary Assistant to work alongside our team of experienced veterinarians, skilled technicians, and devoted support staff to ensure each animal receives the best possible care during their stay with us. Salary: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour, determined by the candidate's skills, experience, and qualifications.

Schedule: Part-time, 2–3 days per week, averaging 24-32 hours per week, with a typical Monday/Tuesday/Friday schedule or rotating days based on coverage needs. 8–10-hour shifts with a lunch break. Hours fall between 7:30 AM–8:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 7:30 AM–6:00 PM on other days.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist veterinarians and vet techs during examinations, treatments, and surgeries

Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately

Prepare examination rooms and surgical areas by cleaning and sterilizing equipment and surfaces

Perform basic laboratory tests, such as collecting blood, urine, and stool samples

Administer medications and vaccinations under the supervision of a veterinarian

Feed, bathe, and exercise animals as needed

Maintain accurate medical records

Communicate with pet owners about their pets’ care, treatment plans, and follow-up visits

Clean and maintain the clinic, including stocking supplies and ensuring a safe and sanitary environment

Qualifications:

At least 1+ years of veterinary assistant experience is preferred.

Technical know-how in areas such as disinfection, administering medication, and using diagnostic equipment.

Physical ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.
