Compensation

About the Role

VOLT Lighting is a fast-moving e-commerce company selling professional-grade landscape lighting under the VOLT and AMP brands. Our Magento/Adobe Commerce platform is the center of gravity for our customer experience, and this role is responsible for keeping it fast, reliable, and improving every day.

We are looking for a Web Developer to join our small internal team, sharing the workload across voltlighting.com and amplighting.com. You will collaborate closely with our Enterprise Solutions Architect, Director of IT, and an external agency partner to ship fixes, features, and platform improvements.

This is not a ticket-crunching role. We want someone who takes ownership, surfaces root causes, and builds things right the first time.

What You Will Do

Platform Development

  • Contribute to development and maintenance of the VOLT and AMP Magento/Adobe Commerce storefronts alongside our Enterprise Solutions Architect
  • Manage and contribute to the Magento codebase in Bitbucket, following branch protection and code review standards
  • Work within and help mature the CI/CD pipeline, including staging deployments and pre-production UAT
  • Collaborate with our external agency partner on larger platform projects, reviewing their work and ensuring quality
  • Help scope and prioritize work across bugs, enhancements, and technical debt -- balancing immediate needs against long-term platform health
  • Identify and advocate for high-impact platform improvements beyond the scope of assigned tasks

Frontend Development

  • Build and maintain frontend components on the Hyva theme framework
  • Implement and debug CLP (Category Landing Page) and PDP (Product Detail Page) layouts, swatch logic, and filter behavior
  • Develop responsive, performant UI across desktop and mobile
  • Maintain and improve GTM/Google Analytics 4 data layer implementations

Commerce & Integrations

  • Troubleshoot and resolve checkout, cart, and payment processing issues
  • Support catalog and pricing configurations including promotional rules, kit pricing, and product badge logic
  • Work with third-party integrations including ERP, CRM, tax, and EDI systems as needed
  • Maintain a focus on integration reliability and data integrity across connected systems

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Marketing, Sales, and other departments to translate business goals into effective technical solutions
  • Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders throughout delivery

Production & Quality

  • Monitor and debug production issues using logs, error tracking, and performance monitoring tools
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across frontend and backend systems
  • Contribute to reducing technical debt and improving long-term platform maintainability
  • Participate in code review and help establish and uphold engineering standards
  • Write and maintain technical documentation for platform customizations and workflows

What We Are Looking For

Required

  • 3+ years of Magento 2 / Adobe Commerce development experience
  • Strong PHP skills with solid understanding of Magento module architecture, plugins, and observers
  • Proficiency with the Hyva theme framework (Tailwind CSS, Alpine.js, GraphQL)
  • Experience with Git-based workflows and a version-controlled, code-reviewed development process
  • Solid frontend fundamentals: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and comfort debugging in the browser
  • Familiarity with e-commerce performance concepts including caching, indexing, and Core Web Vitals
  • Experience integrating Magento with third-party services via REST APIs and web services
  • Understanding of Magento security best practices and platform update processes
  • Strong production awareness, including experience troubleshooting live issues and working with monitoring tools
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of outcomes, not just task execution
  • Strong communication skills; able to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Strongly Preferred

  • Experience using Claude Code or similar AI-assisted development tools to improve delivery speed, code quality, and debugging efficiency
  • Proactive mindset toward evaluating and adopting tools that enhance team velocity
  • Familiarity with Adobe Commerce Cloud infrastructure and deployment tooling
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment workflows
  • GTM and GA4 data layer implementation experience
  • Background working alongside or reviewing the work of an external development agency
  • Experience with ERP or CRM integrations from the Magento side

Nice to Have

  • Adobe Commerce certification
  • Background in B2B or contractor-facing e-commerce (Pro accounts, tiered pricing, custom catalogs)
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices within Magento including redirects, metadata, and structured data
