Role summary
Waymo's Roadgraph team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build and scale the automated pipelines and ML models that create and validate the high-definition geo knowledge base powering the Waymo Driver. This role involves working on all aspects of the ML modeling lifecycle, from labeling and training to evaluation and inference, with a focus on generating map data from raw sensor streams. You will apply statistical analysis, build backend infrastructure for data processing and storage, and collaborate with onboard teams to evolve mapping formats. The ideal candidate has a BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience, with hands-on experience in statistical analysis, experiment design, quantitative evaluation of ML models/data pipelines, and building scalable data processing pipelines using distributed frameworks like Google Data Flow or Apache Beam. Preferred qualifications include a Master's or Ph.D., experience with distributed systems, and domain familiarity with autonomous vehicles or HD mapping.
Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.
The Roadgraph team builds the intelligent platform and automated pipelines that create, validate, and scale the high-definition geo knowledge base powering the Waymo Driver. We combine applied machine learning, computer vision, statistical evaluation, and large-scale distributed systems to solve one of the most foundational and exciting challenges in autonomous driving.High-definition mapping is a foundational pillar enabling the Waymo Driver to navigate safely, smoothly, and reliably. To rapidly expand commercial autonomous ride-hailing to new cities and continents, we must scale our automated mapping pipelines. This role sits at the center of that mission—building the applied ML models, evaluation engines, and large-scale data infrastructure that transform real-world sensor streams into the world's most precise and reliable spatial knowledge base.
We work closely with onboard engineers to solve problems in an end to end fashion. You will be working on all aspects of the modeling life cycle (labeling, training, evaluation, inference), put your models to work, and measure impact on the overall system.

Alien Dictionary Order Derive the alien dictionary order from a sorted list of alien words. Input: words = ["z","x","z"] Output: "" (Empty String) Explanation: The letter 'z' cannot come before 'x' and then suddenly after 'x', creating a cycle and making the dictionary invalid.

Palindrome After Deleting One Character Determine if a string can be a palindrome after deleting at most one character. Input: s = "abc" Output: FALSE Explanation: Deleting any single character leaves either "ab", "bc", or "ac", none of which result in a valid palindrome.
