Role summary

This remote role involves training and refining AI language capabilities in Amharic. Responsibilities include annotating and labeling multilingual audio, translating and localizing content from English to Amharic, and producing clear, natural audio data. The role requires proficiency in Amharic (CEFR C1+) and English (CEFR B2+). Preferred experience includes advanced transcription, audio annotation, translation/localization, voice recording, linguistics, phonetics, or working with speech/audio datasets and AI training data. The position is typically a 6-month fixed-term contract, with potential for extension or conversion.

AI TUTOR, AMHARIC - TEMPORARY

In this role, you will help train and refine Grok's voice and language capabilities in Amharic. Your expertise will directly shape how Grok speaks and understands Amharic, from pronunciation and natural phrasing to cultural nuance. You will see your work show up in a product used by people around the world.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Annotate, label, and provide feedback on multilingual audio clips, voice recordings, and speech samples using proprietary tools
  • Translate and localize text (UI copy, prompts, responses, and other content) from English into Amharic, with attention to accuracy, natural phrasing, and cultural fit
  • Help produce clear, natural audio data that accurately captures linguistic and prosodic details such as intonation, rhythm, and accent
  • Collaborate with technical staff to refine annotation guidelines and tools for handling accents, background noise, speech variation, and multilingual audio

    • POSITION DETAILS:

    This is a temporary position with SpaceXSI, for the length of time as stated, and is subject to change with minimal notice as business needs dictate

  • LENGTH OF POSITION: 6 months (extensions or conversion to a permanent role may be available based on business needs)
  • LOCATION: Remote (United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia); for US-based candidates, please note that we are unable to hire in Wyoming and Illinois at this time

    • BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiency in Amharic at CEFR C1 level or higher
  • English proficiency at CEFR B2 level or higher

    • PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Native proficiency in Amharic
  • English proficiency at CEFR C1 level or higher
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Advanced transcription or audio annotation, with strong attention to accents, prosody, disfluencies, and variable recording quality
  • Translation or localization work (especially UI, product copy, or conversational text) between English and Amharic
  • Voice recording, voice acting, podcasting, or related audio production that demonstrates clear delivery and attention to sound quality
  • Background in linguistics, phonetics, speech sciences, or hands-on work with speech/audio datasets and AI training data

    • ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This role may be offered as a full-time or part-time position depending on role/business needs and candidate availability; full-time positions are preferred and require working standard business hours in your local time zone
  • We are unable to provide visa sponsorship
  • Must be willing to travel to a SpaceXSI site

    • COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

    US-based candidates: $35/hour - $45/hour depending on factors including relevant experience, skills, education, geographic location, and qualifications. International candidates: Information will be provided to you during the recruitment process.
