Role summary
This mid-level Cloud Engineer role focuses on designing, implementing, and managing Azure cloud infrastructure, alongside supporting traditional network and network security operations. Key responsibilities include configuring network security, implementing ZTNA/CASB solutions, automating deployments, monitoring performance and costs, and troubleshooting infrastructure issues to ensure a secure, scalable, and efficient technology environment. This mid-level position is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing Azure cloud infrastructure while also supporting traditional network and network security operations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, network hardware, firewalls, switches, routing, ACLs, and cloud automation. This role ensures that our technology infrastructure is secure, scalable, and efficient to support business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and manage Azure cloud infrastructure, including virtual networks, gateways, and API gateways.
- Configure and secure NGFW, VPNs, SD-WAN/LAN, and network appliances (e.g., Meraki, Palo Alto).
- Implement and manage Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) and Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) solutions.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, Chef, or Puppet, and automate cloud operations and deployments using Bash and/or PowerShell scripting.
- Monitor and optimize cloud performance, cost, and security posture.
- Troubleshoot and resolve cloud infrastructure and network issues.
- Build, support, and maintain servers, network devices, and applications.
- Maintain documentation and ensure compliance with security and operational standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure secure and scalable cloud architecture.
- Stay up to date on security best practices and comply with change control procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience with Microsoft Azure, including IaaS, Azure Gateways, and API Gateway configurations.
- Deep understanding of network security, VPN technologies, and SD-WAN/LAN architectures.
- Experience with firewalls, switches, routing, ACLs, Meraki, and Palo Alto (including Strata Cloud).
- Familiarity with ZTNA and CASB implementations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and teamwork skills; highly team-oriented environment.
- Availability outside of working hours to resolve emergency issues promptly.
Desired Skills & Certifications
- AZ-700, AZ-305, AZ-500 or equivalent experience
- Strong scripting skills in Bash or PowerShell, with hands-on experience using Terraform, Chef, or Puppet for automation and configuration management.
- Knowledge of network architecture and management
Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations)
- May sit or stand at a workstation for up to 8 hours.
- Occasionally lift and/or transport up to 50 pounds of boxes or equipment for short distances.
- Occasionally walk distances to complete security tasks, support team members, or access data centers/retail locations.
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
