About The Role
As a Staff Android Engineer at Capital One Canada, you will play a pivotal role in leading the development of innovative mobile solutions that enhance our customers' financial journeys. You will be responsible for owning the technical design, architecture, and development of cross-platform application systems, working closely with a dynamic team of engineers throughout the entire Software Development Life Cycle. This role does not involve direct reports but requires advanced hands-on development, technical design, and architectural expertise to drive excellence and innovation in our mobile offerings.
In this position, you will be instrumental in creating features that empower users to monitor and manage their credit scores, view and update personal information seamlessly, and access predictive tools like Quick Check for credit approval certainty. Our team is passionate about leveraging cloud technologies, open source, RESTful APIs, microservices, and containers to deliver rapid, high-quality customer experiences. You will contribute to and influence the technological direction of our mobile applications, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and aligned with industry best practices.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience developing native Android applications using Java and Kotlin.
• Extensive experience in application and data design, architecture, and development, demonstrating a deep understanding of scalable and maintainable systems.
• Proficiency with modern Android development tools and frameworks such as RxJava, Coroutines, Dagger, Espresso, JUnit, and Jenkins.
• Proven ability to mentor and guide junior and intermediate software engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment.
• Educational background includes a Bachelor's, Master's, or Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related fields.

Responsibilities

• Own and lead the technical design, architecture, and development of multi-platform, cross-functional application systems that meet business needs.
• Collaborate with a dynamic mobile team throughout the entire SDLC, ensuring best practices are followed and quality standards are maintained.
• Enhance software engineering practices by working within agile teams to design, develop, test, and deploy technical solutions across various tools and technologies.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior, intermediate, and senior mobile associates, fostering skill development and best practices.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating their relevance and potential impact on our products and architecture.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, optimizing development processes, and ensuring scalable, reliable, and secure mobile applications.
