About The Role
As a Staff Android Engineer at Capital One Canada, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our mobile banking applications by leading the development of innovative Android solutions. This position requires advanced hands-on expertise in Android application development, architecture, and design. You will be responsible for motivating and inspiring a team of software engineers, guiding them through the full software development lifecycle, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality products that enhance our customers’ banking experience.
In this role, you will work on cutting-edge projects that empower Canadians to take control of their credit and financial health. Examples of our initiatives include Credit Keeper, which enables customers to view and monitor their credit scores; features that allow users to view and update their personal information directly within the mobile app; and Quick Check, providing customers with pre-approval insights for credit card applications. You will contribute to building scalable, secure, and efficient mobile applications leveraging cloud technologies, open-source tools, RESTful APIs, microservices, and containerization. Our team is committed to rapid deployment and continuous innovation, ensuring our products meet the evolving needs of our customers.
This role does not involve direct management of personnel but emphasizes technical leadership, architecture, and mentorship. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver seamless mobile experiences that align with our strategic goals.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience developing native Android applications using Java and Kotlin.
- Extensive experience in application and data design, architecture, and development.
- Proficiency with RxJava, Coroutines, Dagger, Espresso, JUnit, and Jenkins for testing and CI/CD pipelines.
- Proven ability to mentor junior and intermediate developers, providing technical guidance and fostering best practices.
- Educational background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field, with a Bachelor's, Master's, or Diploma.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical design, architecture, and development of cross-platform and multi-functional application systems, ensuring scalability, security, and performance.
- Participate actively throughout the Software Development Life Cycle, from planning and design to deployment and maintenance.
- Enhance software engineering practices by working within agile teams to develop, test, and implement innovative solutions using a variety of development tools and technologies.
- Provide expert guidance on how emerging technologies impact the domain, and incorporate best practices into project deliverables.
- Mentor and support junior, intermediate, and senior mobile engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
