About The Role
The Staff Android Engineer role at Capital One Canada offers an exciting opportunity for experienced mobile developers to lead and influence the development of innovative Android applications. In this role, you will motivate, manage, and inspire a team of skilled software engineers, guiding them through the full software development lifecycle to deliver high-quality, scalable, and secure mobile solutions. You will be instrumental in shaping the technical architecture and design of our Android applications, ensuring best practices are followed and technical excellence is maintained.
This position involves working on a variety of projects aimed at enhancing customer experience and engagement. Some of our key initiatives include Credit Keeper, which allows customers to view and monitor their credit scores; enabling customers to view and update their personal information directly within the mobile app; and Quick Check, which provides customers with certainty about credit card approval chances before they apply. As part of our innovative team, you will contribute to building cutting-edge features that leverage cloud technology, microservices, RESTful APIs, and open-source tools to deliver rapid and reliable customer experiences.

Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you should possess a minimum of six years of hands-on experience developing native Android applications using Java and Kotlin. You should have a strong background in application and data design, architecture, and development, with proven expertise in creating scalable and efficient mobile solutions. Experience with modern Android development tools and frameworks such as RxJava, Coroutines, Dagger, Espresso, JUnit, and Jenkins is essential. Additionally, you should have demonstrated the ability to mentor junior and intermediate team members and provide guidance to both technical and business stakeholders.
A bachelor's, master's, or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field is required. You should be familiar with agile development practices and have experience working in collaborative, fast-paced environments that prioritize continuous improvement and innovation.
Responsibilities

  • Own the technical design, architecture, and development of cross-functional, multi-platform application systems to ensure high performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Collaborate with a dynamic mobile team throughout the entire Software Development Life Cycle, from planning and design to deployment and support.
  • Enhance software engineering practices by working within agile teams to design, develop, test, and implement technical solutions utilizing a full stack of development tools and technologies.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends, and contribute expertise on how these can be integrated to improve our mobile applications and overall user experience.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior, intermediate, and senior mobile associates, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
