About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Android Engineer to join our dynamic team at Capital One Canada. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and implementing cutting-edge mobile applications that enhance our customers' financial lives. You will lead technical initiatives, influence architecture decisions, and mentor junior engineers, all while working within a collaborative, agile environment. This position requires advanced hands-on development expertise, a strong understanding of mobile architecture, and the ability to drive innovation across our Android platforms.
As part of our software studio, you will contribute to projects that empower Canadians to take control of their credit and financial health. Your work will support features such as credit score monitoring, personal information management, and pre-approval credit assessments. We operate fully in the cloud, leveraging open-source technologies, RESTful APIs, microservices, and containerization to deliver rapid, scalable, and secure customer experiences. This role does not involve direct reports but emphasizes technical leadership, innovative problem-solving, and mentorship to foster a high-performing team environment. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and backend developers, to deliver seamless mobile solutions that align with our strategic goals.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of six years of hands-on experience in native Android application development using Java and Kotlin. You should have a solid background in application and data architecture, with proven expertise in designing scalable, secure, and efficient mobile solutions. Experience with modern Android development tools and frameworks such as RxJava, Coroutines, Dagger, Espresso, JUnit, and Jenkins is essential. A bachelor’s, master’s, or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field is required. Additionally, you should have experience mentoring junior and intermediate developers, guiding technical decisions, and working effectively within agile teams.
Responsibilities
Your primary responsibilities will include owning the technical design, architecture, and development of multi-platform application systems that serve our customers. You will actively participate in the full software development lifecycle, from conceptualization to deployment and maintenance. Improving engineering practices within the team, advocating for best practices, and ensuring high-quality deliverables are key aspects of your role. You will work closely with stakeholders to understand requirements, influence product roadmaps, and implement innovative solutions that enhance user experience. Mentoring junior engineers, providing technical guidance, and fostering a collaborative environment to promote continuous learning and improvement will be vital to your success.
You will also contribute to the adoption of new technologies, help optimize existing systems, and ensure our applications are scalable, reliable, and secure. Your expertise will influence how evolving technology impacts our domain, ensuring our mobile offerings remain competitive and aligned with industry standards.
