Role summary

The AFRL Liquids and Altitude Branch is seeking a Program Manager at the DR/DO-02/03 level for the Altitude Test Facility at the AFRL Rocket Laboratory in Edwards AFB, CA. This role involves managing cost, schedule, performance, and technical risks for liquid and solid rocket test programs, overseeing tasks in engineering, program control, manufacturing, and logistics. The position also supports critical test programs and the maintenance of test stand readiness. The role requires a BS degree in a relevant engineering or management field, or a PMP certification, with at least one year of experience at a GS-12/13 equivalent level or two years at a GS-11 equivalent level. Situational telework is available.

The AFRL Liquids and Altitude Branch seeks to hire a Altitude Test Facility (Area 1-42) Program Manager at the DR/DO-02/03 level. The position is located at the AFRL Rocket Laboratory at Edwards AFB CA.
For more than 60 years, the AFRL Rocket Laboratory at Edwards AFB has contributed to several technology developments in rocket engines, including those of Saturn, Titan, Space Shuttle, and all major intercontinental ballistic missiles and current space launchers. Today, the site continues to enable technology leaps in hypersonics, solid rocket boosters, in-space propulsion, and liquid rockets for defense and commercial space in support for the Air & Space Forces.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing cost, schedule, performance, and technical risks for liquid and solid rocket test programs.
  • Manages tasks associated with engineering, program control, configuration management, test, manufacturing, quality assurance and integrated logistics support.
  • Supports two current test programs designated by the RQ Director as our #1 priority, and the maintenance and enhancement of the test stand to sustain readiness for future test programs.

Required Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required Secret security clearance.
  • Must have two years of experience at the DR-I/DO-I (GS-11 or equivalent) grade level or one year at the DR-II/DO-II (GS-12/13 or equivalent) grade level.
  • Must have BS or graduate degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Management, other Program Management related field, and/or PMP or other similar professional certification .

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in program management with responsibility for managing cost/schedule/performance
  • Experience in either rocket or flight test
  • Strong and effective communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong and effective teams, both internally as well as with external stakeholders
  • Graduate level degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Management, other Program Management related field, and/or PMP or other similar professional certification
