We are hiring an Operations Manager – Sanitation for our growing sanitation operation in Columbus, OH. This is a hands-on leadership role for a disciplined operator who thrives in fast-paced environments, leads through service, and understands that operational excellence exists to support the customer promise.

The Operations Manager will oversee the day-to-day execution of our sanitation operation, including portable restrooms, restroom and shower trailers, sanitation service vehicles, yard operations, drivers, technicians, deliveries, pickups, and service routes. This person will help set the operational tempo of the branch while building a culture grounded in customer centricity, servant leadership, safety, cleanliness, and performance.

Primary Responsibilities

Lead daily sanitation operations including portable restroom service, restroom and shower trailers, delivery and pickup operations, service routes, yard activities, and equipment readiness.

Manage and support drivers, yard technicians, service technicians, and other sanitation team members to ensure safe, efficient daily execution.

Champion a customer-first culture where cleanliness, responsiveness, reliability, and on-time service are non-negotiable.

Coordinate daily driver routes, deliveries, pickups, exchanges, and recurring service schedules to maximize fleet and labor efficiency.

Ensure portable restrooms, restroom trailers, shower trailers, and related sanitation equipment are clean, functional, properly maintained, and rental-ready.

Oversee the inspection, staging, deployment, and return of sanitation equipment.

Ensure restroom and shower trailers receive appropriate preventative maintenance and repairs, including basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, pumps, tanks, fixtures, toilets, lighting, and other trailer systems.

Monitor sanitation truck and vacuum truck readiness and coordinate maintenance or repairs as necessary.

Assist the General Manager in maximizing branch performance through disciplined execution of operational procedures.

Establish structured operating rhythms including KPI reviews, labor planning, route planning, equipment readiness, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Monitor operational metrics including on-time service, route completion, equipment utilization, fleet readiness, customer service levels, labor efficiency, revenue, and profitability.

Respond quickly to service issues, emergency requests, equipment failures, missed services, and changing customer requirements.

Familiarize yourself with the sanitation business line to provide logistical and operational support to field teams and customers.

Coordinate with sales to ensure new rentals, project mobilizations, recurring service requirements, and customer expectations are properly communicated and executed.

Maintain and nurture existing customer relationships to ensure customers are satisfied with the level of service and support they receive from EquipmentShare.

Support customers with quotes, rental needs, and sanitation solutions as necessary.

Oversee procurement and inventory of sanitation supplies, chemicals, repair parts, PPE, and other materials required for branch operations.

Maintain accurate inventory and conduct periodic audits of equipment, supplies, and parts.

Ensure compliance with EquipmentShare safety policies as well as applicable DOT, environmental, wastewater disposal, and jobsite requirements.

Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and professional yard and facility.

Identify operational inefficiencies and develop processes that improve route density, turnaround time, equipment utilization, customer experience, and profitability.

Build, develop, and hold accountable a high-performing sanitation operations team.

Skills & Qualifications

Strong leadership and team-management skills in a fast-paced field-service environment.

Strong organizational, scheduling, and logistical abilities.

Ability to manage drivers, technicians, routes, equipment, and customer demands simultaneously.

Ability to prioritize rapidly changing operational requirements.

Strong safety awareness and ability to enforce operational standards.

Comfortable using technology to manage operations, scheduling, equipment, and performance.

Ability to work in ambiguous situations with limited supervision.

Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with trucks, trailers, pumps, plumbing, electrical systems, or sanitation equipment is highly desirable.

Education & Experience

5+ years of leadership experience in sanitation, portable restrooms, waste services, environmental services, equipment rental, field services, transportation, logistics, construction services, or a similar operational environment.

Experience managing drivers, technicians, route-based operations, or field-service teams strongly preferred.

Portable restroom, restroom trailer, septic, vacuum truck, waste, or sanitation industry experience is highly preferred but not required for a strong operational leader with transferable experience.

Demonstrated success leading teams in high-volume, customer-focused operations.

Strong financial and operational acumen.

Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Results-driven mindset.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Ability to spend significant portions of the workday in the yard and field supporting operational activities.

Ability to safely enter, inspect, and work around restroom trailers, sanitation equipment, trucks, and customer jobsites.

Ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and similar equipment as necessary.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
