Role summary

Gutier is seeking an Assistant Project Manager for a full-time, on-site role in Houston, TX. This position supports the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and overseeing construction projects from pre-construction to closeout. The Assistant PM ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards, while maintaining effective communication with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and stakeholders. Responsibilities include assisting with project planning, scheduling, resource allocation, budget tracking, cost reporting, invoice review, and maintaining project records. Qualifications include experience with project support, procurement, expediting, materials oversight, supply chain understanding, strong organizational and communication skills, proficiency with project management tools (MS Office, Procore, scheduling software), and a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience. Experience in construction or engineering is preferred.

Role Description

The Assistant Project Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Houston, TX. This position supports the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and overseeing construction projects from pre-construction through project closeout. The Assistant PM helps ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and according to quality standards while maintaining effective communication with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and project stakeholders. Below is the list of responsibilities:

  • Supports the Project Manager to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with contract, design, budget, and schedule requirements.
  • Assist in managing daily project operations and activities.
  • Support project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Monitor project progress and report status updates to the Project Manager.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and field personnel.
  • Assist with project scheduling, tracking milestones, coordinating with internal teams and external vendors, and help manage budgets and documentation.
  • Assist with budget tracking and cost reporting.
  • Review invoices, change orders, and purchase orders.
  • Monitor project expenditures and identify potential cost overruns.
  • Support the preparation of pay applications, project forecasts and financial reports.
  • Communicate with the Owner and Design team to solve problems and facilitate construction activities.
  • Help develop and maintain project schedules and track milestones and critical deadlines.
  • Coordinate project activities to ensure timely completion.
  • Maintain project records, contracts, permits, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
  • Prepare meeting agendas and distribute meeting minutes.
  • Assist with subcontractor procurement and contract management.
  • Review contract documents for compliance and project requirements.
  • Prepare project reports, maintain communication with stakeholders, and identify risks or issues that may impact project timelines or outcomes.
  • Oversee expediting activities, monitor logistics and inspections, and ensure that work aligns with Quality, HSSE, and client requirements.

Qualifications

  • Experience with project support and oversight, including Project Management and coordination activities.
  • Knowledge of procurement and vendor follow-up processes, including Expeditor and Expediting responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with materials and quality oversight, including basic Inspection practices.
  • Understanding of supply chain and material flow, including Logistics Management.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency with project management and productivity tools (e.g., MS Office, Procore, Project scheduling software).
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in construction, engineering, or industrial projects is preferred.
