Role summary
Hark, an AI company developing advanced, personalized intelligence and next-generation hardware, seeks a Patent Agent to build its software patent portfolio. This role involves drafting and prosecuting patents for models, inference systems, and platform software, working closely with research scientists and engineers. The Patent Agent will shape patent strategy, identify inventions, and ensure subject-matter eligibility. Responsibilities include managing US and international applications, responding to office actions, advising on patent vs. trade secret, and reviewing outside counsel work. The ideal candidate is registered to practice before the USPTO, holds a technical degree, has 5+ years of software patent experience, and deep knowledge of §101 eligibility. Experience in AI/software/platform companies and building prosecution processes from scratch is preferred.
About Hark
Hark is an artificial intelligence company building advanced, personalized intelligence. One that is proactive, multimodal, and capable of interacting with the world through speech, text, vision, and persistent memory.
We're pairing that intelligence with next-generation hardware to create a universal interface between humans and machines. While today's AI largely operates through chat boxes and decade-old devices, Hark is focused on what comes next: agentic systems that interact naturally with people and the real world.
To get there, we're developing multimodal models and next-generation AI hardware together - designed from the ground up as a single, unified interface for a new era of intelligent systems.
About the Role
Hark is seeking a Patent Agent to build the software side of our patent portfolio from the ground up. This person will own drafting and prosecution across our models, inference systems, and platform software, and will shape how the company decides what to protect as its research moves from experiment to product. This role sits inside Legal but lives with research and engineering. You will work alongside the people building our foundation models, on-device inference, agentic systems, and product software, finding the inventions before anyone has thought to write them down. Then you will go draft the applications yourself.Software patents are won or lost on subject-matter eligibility, and the work of getting a claim allowed starts long before the first office action. It starts in the specification, and before that, in understanding the technical problem well enough to say precisely what the invention improves. This is a hands-on opportunity for someone who wants to author that strategy rather than inherit it.
