Role summary
Noze is seeking a Junior Technician specializing in Hardware & Prototyping to join their fast-paced product development team. This role involves maintaining, servicing, and calibrating test rigs and prototyping equipment, executing fine-pitch soldering and wire harnessing, and supporting engineers in building and iterating on hardware prototypes. The technician will also conduct basic functional verification using electronic test instruments, maintain laboratory organization, and document assembly processes. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, has hands-on proficiency in hardware assembly and debugging, and possesses strong organizational and communication skills.
Who We Are
Noze has digitized the sense of smell. We’ve done for the nose what the camera did for the eyes and the microphone did for the ears. It took six years and some help from NASA, but we did it. Now it’s time for us to bring it to the world.
Are you passionate about elevating human health & well-being? Are you curious about how the human body works, the mechanisms behind it, and how we can capture it?
People who succeed at Noze have a sense of urgency, a ton of initiative, infinite curiosity, a strong internal drive, and an enthusiasm for technology. If you’re bursting with fresh ideas and want to join a company in its journey to change the status quo, then this opportunity is for you!
Who You Are
You are a detail-oriented, hands-on Hardware & Prototyping Technician who excels in a fast-paced product development setting. You have a passion for building, maintaining, and troubleshooting test rigs, rapid prototyping equipment, and custom electronic hardware setups. You take pride in precision craftsmanship—from fine-pitch soldering to wire harness assembly—and enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists to deliver functional prototypes and robust testing systems that directly drive product innovation.
What You Will Do
- Maintain, service, and calibrate internal product testing rigs, bench setups, and rapid prototyping equipment.
- Execute fine-pitch soldering, surface-mount component (SMD) rework, wire harnessing, and mechanical prototyping for experimental builds.
- Support engineering teams in building, assembling, and iterating on hardware prototypes and test platforms throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Conduct basic functional verification and performance testing on hardware assemblies using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and custom test interfaces.
- Maintain laboratory safety, tool inventories, component stock levels, and workspace organization in alignment with company safety and quality standards.
- Document prototype assembly steps, test rig configurations, maintenance logs, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware, sensor, firmware, and product development, to streamline prototyping workflows and rapidly resolve technical roadblocks.
What You Need
- Diploma (DEC) in Electronics Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electromechanics, or a closely related technical field.
- 1 to 3 years of practical experience in a hardware prototyping laboratory environment.
- Demonstrated hands-on proficiency in PCB soldering (SMD & through-hole), component rework, wire harnessing, and electromechanical assembly.
- Practical experience operating and maintaining rapid prototyping equipment (3D printers, small benchtop tools) and electronic test instruments.
- Strong troubleshooting ability and familiarity with basic electronic circuit debugging.
- Strong organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple prototyping tasks efficiently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
* This position is funded by a grant Program which requires the candidates to be:
- a new graduate
- a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
- Below 30 years of age.
