Role summary

Numen is seeking a Senior Signal Processing Engineer to own the measurement chain from sensor to reported result for biosensor readouts. This role involves defining readout architecture, developing and validating signal processing and calibration algorithms, characterizing noise sources, and implementing algorithms in firmware/software. The engineer will specify and execute analytical verification studies and support hardware V&V and DHF content. Requires an MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field, 5+ years of experience in signal acquisition and processing for medical/scientific instruments with product through FDA clearance, low-noise analog and mixed-signal system experience, and proficiency in Python and C/C++ (or Rust). Experience defining and running analytical performance studies is essential. IVD or point-of-care diagnostics experience is a plus.

### **About Numen**

Numen is a San Francisco-based team building technology to drive cancer mortality toward zero. Our goal is to compress every patient's journey from the first signal of disease to optimal treatment with earlier, easier detection. Backed by Y Combinator, we are a dynamic team across bioscience, engineering, machine learning, and design, building diagnostics from the ground up.

### About the role

This role owns the measurement chain from sensor to reported result: readout electronics, signal processing, and the algorithms to turn raw sensor data into a quantitative output.

### **What you'll do**

* Define readout architecture for sensor arrays: excitation, lock-in/demodulation, ADC selection, noise budgeting
* Develop and validate signal processing and calibration algorithms (drift correction, temperature compensation, baseline estimation, multiplex deconvolution)
* Characterize noise sources and set instrument specifications from assay requirements.
* Implement algorithms in firmware and/or host software with version control, unit tests, and traceability to requirements
* Specify and execute analytical verification: precision, linearity, interference, and robustness studies per CLSI guidance
* Support hardware V&V, design reviews, and DHF content for software and algorithm components (IEC 62304)

### **Requirements**

* MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field
* 5+ years developing signal acquisition and processing for medical or scientific instruments, with at least one product through FDA clearance
* Low-noise analog design and mixed-signal system experience
* Python and C/C++ (or Rust)
* Experience defining and running analytical performance studies

### **Nice to have**

* IVD or point-of-care diagnostics experience

### **Why Join Us:**

* Be part of a visionary team that is set to change the way diagnostic testing is done.
* Work in a collaborative and innovative environment with leading experts across various fields.
* Competitive salary and benefits package.
* Opportunities for professional growth and development in a fast-paced startup setting.
* Make a tangible impact on healthcare and improve patient outcomes through at-home diagnostics.

### **Even if you feel like you don’t meet all of the qualifications, we encourage you to apply!**

Research shows that while men apply to jobs where they meet an average of 60% of the criteria, women and other underrepresented people tend to only apply when they meet 100% of the qualifications. At Cleancard, we welcome diverse perspectives and people who think rigorously and aren't afraid to challenge the status quo. Cleancard is an equal opportunity employer; we celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment, free from discrimination or harassment, for all employees.
