About this role:
As Fleet Manager, you will own the maintenance, compliance, and lifecycle of PlusAI's mixed fleet, spanning distinct vehicle types including autonomous Class 8 semi-trucks, passenger cars, and trailers. You will build and run a preventative maintenance program that maximizes uptime, keep the fleet audit-ready under DOT, FMCSA, California regulatory requirements, and manage every asset from acquisition and leasing through registration, insurance, and disposal. Working closely with AV hardware and software teams, vehicle operations, and external repair shops and mobile mechanics, you will adapt traditional fleet practices to the demands of autonomous trucking. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong vendor and cross-functional leadership, and a safety- and compliance-first mindset.
What You'll Do
Develop, implement, and optimize a robust preventative maintenance program tailored to 5–10 distinct vehicle types, including autonomous semi-trucks, passenger cars, and trailers.
Proactively identify bottlenecks and implement strategies to minimize vehicle downtime and maximize operational readiness.
Lead the internal Fleet Maintenance Committee to review emergent technical or mechanical issues, collaborating with AV hardware/software teams to determine the best course of action.
Serve as the primary point of contact for external repair shops and mobile mechanics, coordinating, assessing, and resolving maintenance issues efficiently, and maintain an accurate inventory of vehicle supplies, spare parts, and equipment.
Maintain meticulous, audit-ready maintenance records in strict accordance with DOT regulations, and keep asset compliance records current in the CPSuite portal.
Track, schedule, and manage documentation for California 90-day BIT (Biennial Inspection of Terminals) and annual DOT inspections, and ensure the fleet is registered for all CARB (California Air Resources Board) programs with timely emissions testing and ongoing compliance.
Continuously track FMCSA SAFER scoring, analyze trends, and immediately flag and remediate safety or compliance issues; manage the ELD system (Motive) and update the company's MCS-150 report annually.
Own the asset lifecycle, including the purchase, sale, or scrapping of fleet vehicles, trailer and forklift lease documentation, and timely renewals of vehicle registrations, fleet insurance policies, and IFTA credentials.
Prepare and file quarterly IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement) and state weight-distance/use taxes, and track fleet-wide fuel usage, including distribution, security, and auditing of company fuel cards.
Required Qualifications

Exceptional attention to detail with a proven track record of maintaining flawless documentation for regulatory audits.
Strong collaborative and communication skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional maintenance committees and negotiate effectively with external vendors and mobile mechanics.
