Sr. Cloud Engineer
Role summary
PortX is seeking a Sr. Cloud Engineer to build and manage their Kubernetes-based hosting platform on AWS. This role involves engineering secure, highly-available infrastructure using cloud-native technologies, supporting internal tooling, and ensuring SOC 2 compliance. Responsibilities include infrastructure management with Pulumi, application performance tuning, troubleshooting production and networking issues, and collaborating with development teams. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Kubernetes (5+ years), AWS services, Python, Go, and Linux shell scripting, with a preference for GitOps, Docker, Helm, and CI systems like GitHub Actions.

Role overview:
This position is responsible for building applications and tools to manage infrastructure and continuous deployment systems for PortX’s Kubernetes-based hosting platform in AWS. The platform provides highly available and secure microservices API hosting for financial institutions using cloud-native technologies.
Responsibilities include:
- Build and manage secure, highly-available, cloud infrastructure using Pulumi.
- Engineer new platform technologies using a variety of languages and tools.
- Support and enhance our internal platform tooling.
- Regularly update all infrastructure components to ensure platform security.
- Ensure systems meet SOC 2 compliance.
- Create and manage networking integrations with customer networks.
- Perform monitoring and performance tuning of Java, Python, Go, and TypeScript based microservice applications.
- Create documentation and diagrams.
- Evangelize Kubernetes, Docker and infrastructure best practices.
- Support development teams configuring applications to run on the infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot production issues and determine the root cause using industry standard observability tools.
- Troubleshoot networking issues using industry standard tools.
- Collaborate across a variety of technology disciplines in a fast-moving environment.
Technical skills required, include:
- Strong Troubleshooting and CodeGen AI skills (
GitHub Copilot or Claude Code
preferred)
- Familiarity with
GitOps
operating frameworks and best practices
- Common

- AWS
VPC
