Role summary
Reflex is seeking a Software Engineer to join their Platform team in San Francisco. This role focuses on building and maintaining the shared technology behind the Reflex platform, contributing to infrastructure, AI, and the open-source Reflex framework. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, testing, and operating reliable software, improving system performance, reliability, and security, and developing core components and APIs. The ideal candidate has strong software engineering skills, experience with production systems, and relevant depth in infrastructure, AI systems, or frameworks. This is a full-time, onsite position.
## About Reflex
Reflex helps teams build, deploy, and manage production applications in Python. We’re hiring a Software Engineer to build and maintain the shared technology behind our platform.
## About the role
You’ll join the Platform team under the Head of Engineering and contribute across infrastructure, AI, and the open-source Reflex framework. Your focus will follow project needs and your expertise, with clear ownership for each project.
You’ll turn product requirements and customer feedback into reliable, reusable capabilities, taking work from design through implementation, testing, release, and production operation.
## What you’ll do
- Design, implement, test, review, and release maintainable software. Explain technical tradeoffs and document interfaces and operational behavior.
- Build and operate hosting, deployment systems, monitoring, and recovery tooling. Improve reliability, capacity, infrastructure security, and cost, including on-premises platform deployments where applicable.
- Build shared AI capabilities and model integrations. Improve inference performance, latency, and cost; develop evaluations and investigate quality regressions and production failures.
- Develop core Reflex components, APIs, and application runtime capabilities. Fix framework defects, improve performance and developer experience, and maintain compatibility, releases, and migration guidance.
- Maintain meaningful tests, diagnostics, and documentation. Diagnose incidents and address recurring failure modes.
- Collaborate with Platform engineers and Forward Deployed Engineers on shared dependencies. Work with the Deployment Strategist to understand customer feedback and shape reusable product improvements.
## How you’ll work with the team
The Head of Engineering leads Platform and sets its roadmap and priorities. You’ll own technical implementation and quality for your assigned projects across infrastructure, AI, and the framework. Forward Deployed Engineers own customer applications and integrations; you’ll partner with them on shared platform capabilities and technical fixes.
## What you bring
- Strong software engineering skills and experience building production systems.
- Ability to design, debug, test, and maintain reliable software.
- Clear communication of technical decisions and tradeoffs.
- Relevant depth in infrastructure, AI systems, or frameworks and developer tools.
Helpful experience includes Python, cloud infrastructure, deployment automation, model APIs and evaluations, application runtimes, frontend integration, and open-source development. Specialized experience depends on the project.
## How success is measured
- Reliable delivery of useful shared capabilities.
- Improvements to quality, performance, reliability, or developer experience.
- Effective resolution of defects and production issues.
- Clear documentation and productive collaboration across Platform and Deployment.
## Your first 90 days
- **First 30 days:** Learn Platform systems, priorities, users, and production risks.
- **Days 31–60:** Own a scoped improvement with appropriate tests, documentation, and success measures.
- **Days 61–90:** Ship the improvement, review its impact, and identify the next priorities with the Head of Engineering.
## Location and compensation
Full-time, in-office in San Francisco. Base salary: $130,000–$175,000 annually. Equity: 0.1%.
Must be authorized to work in the United States. Reflex does not offer visa sponsorship for this role.
When applying, tell us about a system you built or improved, the technical decisions you made, and what you personally owned.
