Role summary

Storable is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to own significant technical outcomes and drive engineering best practices. This role involves designing and delivering complex features and services, leading technical execution, and making critical design decisions for distributed systems, APIs, and service-oriented architectures. The engineer will write production code, improve system reliability and performance, and partner with product stakeholders. Experience with AI tools and a hands-on approach to problem-solving are essential. The position is hybrid in Bellevue, WA, requiring 5+ years of software development experience. Preferred qualifications include experience with event-driven architecture, cloud platforms, and AI/GenAI application patterns.

Overview

Senior Software Development Engineers own substantial technical outcomes within a team and help sister teams deliver effectively. They take ambiguous requirements and turn them into simple, reliable solutions, while raising the quality of engineering practices around them.

You will work across Engineering and partner functions to deliver customer value in Storable’s FMS, CRM, Commerce, Marketplace, and shared technology capabilities. You will be expected to lead meaningful projects hands-on, make sound design decisions within your area, and help teammates grow through practical coaching and thoughtful technical feedback.

What you'll do every day

Own the design and delivery of complex features, services, or workflows from problem definition through production operation.

Lead technical execution for projects within your team and coordinate dependencies with sister teams in Engineering.

Make pragmatic decisions about APIs, data models, service boundaries, testing, observability, and operational readiness.

Write production code, review designs and pull requests, and resolve difficult technical issues without requiring close direction.

Improve reliability, performance, security, and maintainability within your team’s systems and identify recurring sources of operational work.

Partner with Product and business stakeholders to clarify tradeoffs, sequence delivery, and connect engineering work to customer outcomes.

Contribute to architecture discussions beyond your immediate team and help teams converge on consistent technical approaches.

Use AI-assisted development and operational tools to improve delivery speed, test coverage, documentation, and decision quality.

Apply AI and automation where they improve product workflows, customer insight, or team operations, with appropriate attention to quality and safety.

Mentor engineers through pairing, code reviews, design feedback, and clear examples of strong engineering practice.

What you need to bring

5+ years of software development experience, including strong expertise in distributed systems, APIs, and service-oriented architecture.

Experience delivering and operating production software with increasing ownership of complex systems or product areas.

Strong software engineering fundamentals, including system design, APIs, data modeling, testing, observability, and version control.

A record of leading projects within a team and collaborating effectively with sister teams to resolve dependencies and deliver shared outcomes.

Ability to make and communicate technical tradeoffs, influence decisions through evidence, and work effectively with Product and non-technical partners.

A hands-on approach: you write and review code, investigate production behavior, and stay accountable for outcomes after launch.

Experience using AI tools or an AI-forward mindset, with a track record of applying AI to improve engineering productivity, product quality, or operational workflows.

Bonus points

Experience with distributed systems, event-driven architecture, cloud platforms, or high-availability production services.

Experience with FMS, CRM, commerce, payments, subscriptions, or other business-critical workflows.

Experience leading migrations, service decomposition, or other improvements across team boundaries.

Experience with AI/GenAI application patterns, agent-callable services, evaluation practices, or intelligent automation.

Experience mentoring engineers and improving team standards for design, testing, observability, and operational excellence.

Experience supporting multiple markets, local payment methods, compliance requirements, or international product expansion.

All applicants must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States and able to work a hybrid schedule in our Bellevue, WA office.
