Program Manager
Role summary
Summit Journeys seeks a Program Manager to lead program delivery and quality assurance for adventure programs. This role involves supervising and scheduling adventure leaders, managing volunteer recruitment and training, overseeing program budgets and documentation, and coordinating pre- and post-trip logistics. The Program Manager will ensure compliance with risk management standards and cultivate strong relationships with partners. This position requires a minimum of 1 year of management experience, extensive group leadership skills, and the ability to work onsite in various weather conditions, including physical demands like lifting and standing for extended periods. First Aid & CPR certification is required.
PROGRAM MANAGER
OVERVIEW
The Summit Journeys Program Manager will be a leader in program delivery and quality
assurance. This position will coordinate aspects of adventure delivery and quality assurance.
Responsibilities include supervising and scheduling adventure leaders, pre & post trip
communication with partners and groups, overseeing group paperwork, and ensuring quality
standards are achieved.
COMPENSATION
$20- 22/Hr, depending on experience
Time commitment for this position averages 30-40 hours per week (seasonal with the potential to stay onboard after the season ends in September)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Adventure Leaders & Volunteer Supervision
- Assist in training adventure leaders and volunteers to deliver outdoor adventure experiences aligned with Summit Journeys’ mission and participant goals.
- Manage volunteer recruitment, training, onboarding, skill proficiency tracking, scheduling, and communication.
- Provide ongoing supervision and coaching to adventure leaders, interns, and volunteers to ensure quality service and adherence to organizational policies.
- Communicate participant goals, objectives, accommodations, and special needs to adventure leaders and volunteers.
- Recruit and hire new adventure leaders, interns, and volunteers as program needs evolve.
- Ensure volunteers are effectively utilized on all trips and supported in their roles.
Program Management
- Manage complex budgets across multiple jobs (camp, day trips and day camps)
- Manage program dashboards, data tracking, and reporting systems to ensure accurate and organized program documentation.
- Coordinate all pre-trip planning and communication with participants, caregivers, and partner organizations.
- Support curriculum development, updates, and implementation across all programs.
- Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of Summit Journeys programs.
- Support the development and management of camp budgets, monitor expenses, and ensure accurate financial reporting by coordiating with bookkeeper on all transactions
- Assist with planning and facilitating day trips, school programs, and additional adventure offerings.
- Train camp staff, interns, and volunteers to deliver engaging, safe, and inclusive programming.
- Ensure compliance with risk management standards, permits, contracts, and organizational policies.
- Cultivate strong, positive relationships with community partners, schools, organizations, and families to support program growth and long-term sustainability.
- Manage shifts on Homebase (or equivalent scheduling software)
- Prepare and send invoices for payment in Quickbooks
- Coordiate with payroll biweekly
Trip Support & Facilitation
- Support pre-trip logistics including equipment preparation, communication, and transportation planning.
- Lead or co-lead trips as needed, ensuring participant safety, engagement, and goal-oriented instruction.
- Conduct post-trip debriefings, complete required documentation, and oversee equipment cleanup and reset.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be 21+ years old.
- Must pass a background check.
- Minimum of 1 year of management experience
- Extensive experience in group leadership.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Enjoys working in an environment of extensive leadership roles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision and be able to learn quickly and adapt easily.
- Able to lift 50 pounds on a frequent basis.
- Ability to walk, stand, and work on feet up to 10 hours a day.
- The ability to move safely over rough and uneven terrain.
- The ability to work in extreme weather.
- Basic manual labor abilities, including an ability and willingness to clean and sanitize facilities with a variety of cleaning agents and chemicals.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS:
- First Aid & CPR ( or willingness to obtain before start date)
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Wilderness First Responder Certification.
- Overnight Camp, Adventure Facilitation, and Day Camp experience.
- Outdoor recreation experience: Rock Climbing, Rappelling, WhiteWater Kayaking, Sailing, paddle boarding, Hiking.
- Single Pitch Instructor Certification
- Swift Water Rescue Certfication
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
