About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead QA Automation Engineer to join our team in Toronto. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for driving the quality assurance strategy, designing scalable automation frameworks, and leading a high-performing QA team. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Product, and DevOps to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions across modern web, API, and enterprise applications. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring two days in the office, and provides an excellent opportunity to influence quality standards and practices at an organizational level.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of software testing experience within Agile development teams
- 7+ years of strong hands-on test automation experience
- Proven experience leading QA teams or acting in a Lead/Architect capacity
- Expertise in automation tools such as Selenium, WebdriverIO, REST Assured, Postman, or similar
- Demonstrated experience building automation frameworks from scratch
- Hands-on experience with BDD/TDD frameworks (Cucumber, Cypress, Playwright, Webdriver.io, TestNG, etc.)
- Solid experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, etc.)
- Strong understanding of QA methodologies and testing types (UI, API, Functional, Regression, SIT, UAT)
- Experience with defect tracking and test management tools such as JIRA
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills
Responsibilities
- Lead QA strategy, planning, and execution across multiple projects and teams to ensure high-quality deliverables
- Design, develop, and scale robust automation frameworks for UI, API, and end-to-end testing to improve testing efficiency and coverage
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to QA engineers, promoting best practices and continuous learning
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Developers, and DevOps teams to integrate testing early in the SDLC and ensure testability
- Drive end-to-end automation initiatives, including building frameworks from scratch when necessary
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to facilitate continuous testing and accelerate release cycles
- Oversee test planning, test case design, execution, and defect management to ensure comprehensive testing coverage
- Ensure thorough testing across functional, regression, integration (SIT), and User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
- Work closely with release management and deployment teams to support seamless product releases
- Establish and maintain QA standards, documentation, test architecture, and governance practices
- Analyze quality metrics and provide actionable insights to stakeholders for ongoing process improvement
- Act as a key escalation point for quality risks, defects, and production issues to mitigate impact and ensure resolution
