About The Role
As a Staff Engineer at Zippy, you will be a key technical leader recognized for your expertise and ability to influence across the organization. Your primary responsibility will be to architect complex, multi-system solutions that are scalable and reliable, aligning with the company's long-term strategic goals. You will define technical standards, lead high-impact initiatives such as platform migrations and reliability programs, and set domain-specific Service Level Objectives (SLOs). Additionally, you will mentor engineering teams, facilitate design reviews, and collaborate with senior leadership to shape technical roadmaps. Your role will involve guiding security and threat modeling efforts, ensuring best practices in API design and cloud infrastructure, and delivering measurable improvements in operational metrics such as mean time to recovery (MTTR) and deployment frequency. This position requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in distributed systems, cloud architecture, security, and API methodologies, capable of driving consensus and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Qualifications

• 9+ years of professional software development experience.
• Extensive experience architecting distributed, scalable systems.
• Deep expertise in cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Strong knowledge of observability, monitoring, and security practices.
• Proficiency in API design, testing, and integration methodologies.
• Proven success in leading organization-wide technical initiatives.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to drive consensus across teams.
• Experience mentoring engineers and conducting technical design reviews.
• Ability to set and measure domain-level SLOs and reliability strategies.

Responsibilities

• Design and architect large-scale, multi-system technical solutions with scalability and reliability in mind.
• Establish and promote organization-wide standards, frameworks, and reference architectures.
• Define and implement SLOs and reliability strategies across multiple systems.
• Lead security initiatives including threat modeling and security best practices.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and refine technical roadmaps.
• Mentor engineers across teams, providing guidance and conducting design reviews.
• Drive improvements in operational metrics such as MTTR, deployment frequency, and system stability.
• Coordinate cross-team efforts to ensure consistency and best practices in system architecture.
• Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and security threats, integrating them into the company's technical standards.
