Role summary
UAB St. Vincent's East is seeking a full-time Patient Care Technician (PCT) for their 5 East Oncology department. This onsite role involves providing basic clinical and non-clinical patient care under supervision, including assisting with ambulation, personal care, and daily living activities. Responsibilities also include monitoring vital signs, performing technical duties like oxygen setup and Foley catheter care, collecting specimens, performing EKGs, maintaining patient rooms, and documenting patient conditions. A High School diploma or equivalent, or one year of relevant experience, is required. BLS Provider certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

What You Will Do
Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
- Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their vehicles.
- Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
- Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. Documents necessary records.
- Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
- Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
- Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Will Need
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
Education:
• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
